That car is awesome, would LOVE to see more pics of it, particularly of the wheels.
Someone should email him for more pics.
Is it worth that? Probably not, but to the right buyer it just might be. If someone out there is hard up for a red, base, early Camaro with those wheels in pristine condition, this is the car.
Pending more pictures, I see no reason this car isn't worth $15k.

4-speed 4 cylinder early thirdgen... paging Chazman...
Low mile survivor thirdgens are the most valuable type these days. We have some time to go before restorations, resto-mods, and hot rod versions command big bucks.
That being said, it's too hard to tell from this ad the condition of the car. Poor craigslist photos and limited information do little to help.
One thing is for sure, though: a 3k mile, perfect condition and fully functioning 83 4-cylinder Camaro is not a $25k car. You're only hope of getting any money out of that thing is bringing it to auction and hoping there are two very affluent thirdgen nerds that have a bidding war over the 4 cylinder car their missing from their thirdgen collection.
Now if it was a Z28...

In some ways I think it's more unique since it isn't a Z28, but we all know the almighty dollar will say otherwise.
But honestly the early Z28s were such slugs that it really makes no difference whether you buy a 4 banger or a Z28, they were all agonizingly slow (sans maybe the L69); however you look at, the early Z28 may pique someone's interest at a cruise-in, until they realize it isn't the almighty IROC, so even an early Z28 has a very limited market of buyers IMO.

Very interesting! Why is a car in Chicago in the LA CL? He needs to be docked afew buck for spelling it Camero. I'd like to get a closer look at those hubcaps, they don't appear original from those tiny pics.

Realistically though, it would be interesting to see what this car ends up going for. That 2,000 mile LB9/T5 Trans Am on ebay is currently at $10.1K.
In the end, the Iron Duke will be lucky to see $5K, IMO.

$5k-$7k is most this will get. Just because it's low miles does not make it worth big money. If the 4 mile 85 IROC-Z sold for $28k, this car will considerably less. Nobody will spend that much for a base model 4 cyl car.

Why would you store a base model car for that long? I can kind of understand if it was a z28 or trans am to store it that long, but storing an iron duke?

I need a better pic, but I'm pretty sure that those are not the stock hubcaps. I'd like to see some more pics of it as well. But I sure don't want to call the guy until he realizes that no one in LA will be giving him $25K for it.
Still think it's weird that the car is in Chicago and he's got an ad in the LA C. Maybe he feels that some Hollywood person is willing to pay his asking price???

I emailed the owner asking for pictures indicating there was some members interested in the originality of the car and that perhaps some one may consider the car if there was additional details and pictures disclosed.
He indicated he doesn't have other pictures. Maybe Jason E needs to talk to owner and go over his 'Selling 101' thread. The owner is going to need it if he wants to sell at his asking price.

Everything in the car is still factory new. My Uncle, who was economy
minded, purchased the car new and drove it a few times in the summer
of 1982. He died in 1983 and the car sat in the garage until 2010. I had
a new gas tank put in the car and replaced a fuel injector and thoroughly
checked over the car and put it on the road for summer use only. The car
has an AM radio with an antenna and a 4 speed shifter on the floor with
bucket seats. The engine is only 4 Cyl. and gets over 30 MPG. This
car is really fun to drive and is truely a blast from the past. For high
performance enthusiast, the car is all set up for a bigger engine. In
Illinois a 25 year old car is considered antique and is exempt from
emission control testing. At this time I do not have additional pictures,
but I can assure you that everything is original except the replaced gas

I test drove a car like that back in the late 80s, it was a early camaro, 4cyl. 4spd. It hardly had any options & the only thing I remember was it was way underpowered. I ended getting an 84 w/ a v6/5spd.

Man, that's one expensive parts car.
Not too surprised it was in storage for 27 years, I wouldn't want to drive it either
Only thing it's got going for it (besides the miles) is the color.

There is no way that car is worth near that asking price, but cool to see since it is so out of the norm. I use to know a guy back in the 90's that had a an 82 or 83 Firebird 2.5 auto with a crapy black paint job LOL!

It's probably about one of 10 left. I'm sure most were crushed years ago. But this goes to the rare v. desirable argument. I recall driving an S10 pizza truck back in high school with this car's "Iron Duke." It was slow, noisy, and just unpleasant. We also had a truck with the 2.8 liter V-6 and it was literally night and day difference.
With all due respect, I just don't see the appeal of this. If you want the styling with economy go with a later 2.8 car. I suppose a serious F-body collector could find it interesting, but if he wants to score with that crowd he's going to have to do a lot better on the presentation. Those are terrible pixs!

If the car is 100% original, the odometer is true, the condition is pristine, everything functions, and the documentation is present, this car has huge appeal... at or below the price point of $5000. Anything over that and I'd walk. As you said, rare versus desirability... in this case the car is rare because it is not desirable.

I'd actually like to have one of those, never seen one in person, and up untill a few years ago i didn't even know they made them. I've seen two factory 4 cyl. cars go up for sell on a local classifieds site I visit regularlly, but the little 2.5s were long gone

The last one that I distinctly remember seeing was at a body shop, circa 1982. It had already recieved agressive fender flares, new paint and wider wheels/tires. It had a very IMSA look to it. I recognized it as an Iron Duke/4speed by the still affixed new car sticker still on the window. Obviously, the owner bought the cheapest Camaro possible, since he was planning on dropping in a whole new powertrain.
Of course, I've probably actually seen many hundreds of them, lost in the sea of thousands of early base model Camaros and Firebirds I used to see on the road in the '80's.
