rarest factory paint colour
amongst all third gen cars,i was wondering, what was the rarest colour offered?? i heard the rumour that ,for instance in 86, van nuys built cars had a problem with certain colours sticking .ive also heard that they only released 52 copper metallic (the factory refers to this colour as "russet") cars from van nuys in 86,and they were all recalled and repainted any colour the owner wanted EXCEPT copper metallic. can anyone enlighten me.or have i been told a load of BS

Re: rarest factory paint colour
I think the yellow IROCs or the early copper metallics would be the rarest. From what I've heard the copper metallic they used turned out to be a mix that Honda owned exclusive rights to (goldwing metallic, if I'm not mistaken) which might explain the recall in on the cars painted that color...

I know there aren't many of the "Russet" cars, but I would have to think one of the 92 year colors would be up there as well. I don't think to many Green Jade metallic cars were made. I'm sure someone has production numbers for all the years.

Shows how many cars of each color were made. You can change year on top. Were a lot of interesting colors in 82.

According to the Camaro White Book, the rarest color (not including '86 Light Brown, or '86 Copper, which they made a total of 6 combined) is '82 Light Jade with 1,160 produced in that one year only-color. If you want to get into colors that were offered several years but got less popular/more rare, then they only made 922 Yellow Camaro's in 1988.
Unfortunately I don't have a Firebird equivalent of the White Book, which I would be more interested in knowing anyway since I'm more of a T/A guy.

From gtasourcepage.com, there were 15 Quasar Blue GTA's for 1992. For rarity, there were 14 Jamaica Yellow GTA's for '92.

I think a blue GTA would be sexy, especially Quasar blue. Whenever I get around to painting my 86' it's between blue or bright red.

Re: rarest factory paint colour
How about this 'Russet" 85? Bought it new and traded on my 91 TA. Didn't think it was that unusal at the time, but thinking back, I don't remember seeing all that many on the road for 6 years. Maybe I should have kept it!

Re: rarest factory paint colour
Does that mean these two are pretty rare? They are actually #2 and 3 of this year and color I have owned. Had another one just like them when I was a kid. Trying to find interior parts is tough. One also has the factory defrost delete rear louvers too! Both have the russet/graphite interior.

Re: rarest factory paint colour
Oh man! Gorgeous!!!! There's one for sale up in Michigan that I found on FB. I've been looking for another thirdgen, one that I'll leave bone stock, and one criteria is that there's something outside the norm. One of these pretty rare colors for example. I've got it saved and I keep looking at it. Ultimately, this isn't the car for me, but I love it! Hook me up with a small finders fee if you buy it! LOL!!!

True, and not...
Vehicles often ordered for dealer stock are red, white, black, and such. Very rare to find unique colors, as they historically don't sell - or would they, if dealers stocked them?
