Where are my RPO Codes?
Hey guys, another question...which I'm rather embarrased to ask. I just picked up a second Third Gen Camaro, a minty 1983 Z28 with just under 20,000 miles on it. LG4 V8, 3 speed automatic with the Lear Siegler interior. It is completly original, and I purchased it from the original owner who bought it brand new in 1983. Everything right down to the tires are original (which I had to replace of course)
Now, on my 87 IROC-Z, I know the RPOs are found under the center console. So I look there first...and no dice. Doesn't even look like there used to be a sticker there, no residue, no outline or anything. I asked the previous owner and he didn't seem to recall removing it.
So my question to you guys, was there any other spots on the earlier Camaros where the RPO sticker would be? I haven't looked that hard yet but I am curious if I have one, or what other methods I have to figuring out all the little bits I have.
Thanks!

I also have an '83, I was informed by a member on this forum that the '83s didn't not have the RPO code sticker. I looked everywhere for mine..............

Re: Where are my RPO Codes?
Interesting. I was talking to a buddy of mine up at a car show today (I think he's on here too), and he said possibly under/around the spare tire (by taking off the panel).
Anybody confirm? Or have a reference pic?

Re: Where are my RPO Codes?
On an '83 it would probably be on the underside of the console door. They were never put on the back of the spare tire cover. The later cars had them on the inside door of the small cargo area in the driver's side of the hatch but an '83 definitely shouldn't be there.

The SPID sticker didn't start until 84. You will not find one in the 83s. There is plate under the hood that has a few codes on it, but does not provide enough details to know what all options were on the car. You can contact GMs Media Archives and order a copy of the original invoice. That's about the best you can do.

Re: Where are my RPO Codes?
Thanks Scott...I am probably going to order my Build Invoice from them, and then send it over to the Window Sticker guys. I have a hand-written bill of sale from the dealership, but there was only so many lines for the options and in 1983 I doubt most buyers gave a crap about all the minor details us Third'Gen'ers care about today.

Re: Where are my RPO Codes?
Wow...old post! I never did find the build sheet for my '83. This past summer though I tried looking under both front seats with mirror and I didn't see anything. I didn't look too hard though as it was not all that comfortable as you'd imagine...lol.
I'll have to try taking the seat out in the spring; cars still in storage for at least another month if not more.
Thanks for the heads up KiansINDYZ28

Re: Where are my RPO Codes?
I should mention though; I ordered my vehicle information from the GM Vintage Vehicles service. Not cheap though at $75 but was worth it to see the complete list of options my car has. Here is the first page as an example

Don't expect finding the build sheet under the seat. If you didn't see it and can't feel it, it's not there. They weren't always found with the car.

Re: Where are my RPO Codes?
They weren't required by the factory to be included with the car. As the car was completed, some line workers threw them away, some just left them in the car and others hid them in the car just to have them with the car. If they were left in the car, the dealer would usually just throw them out when they received the car from the factory and did the dealer prep. All plastic was removed from the steering wheel, seats and door panels and tossed with any papers also in the car.

Re: Where are my RPO Codes?
I had a hunch the other day and felt up under my drivers seat and felt a piece of paper. This is what I pulled out after unbolting seat. I think I saw it before when I removed the seats for cleaning and left it. I'll have to check the passenger side and other places.

Re: Where are my RPO Codes?
I took out my seats and looked under my carpet today just to see if there was one in there. No luck for me. That ends my search. Im not tearing apart my car looking for a paper that my not be there. My friend found his under his spare tire. Its funny the places they stuck these things.

Re: Where are my RPO Codes?
This was found under the back seat of my car. I noticed in the other posts there's another sticker someplace with a lot more codes. Any idea where I can find it? The whole car was gutted except the instrument panel.

Re: Where are my RPO Codes?
Update - I found the RPO Codes! It was so obvious - another poster said they found them inside the console, and that's the one place I didn't look. And there they were!
And my Formula is a WS6 according to the codes, and the VIN on the sticker inside the console matches the VIN on the car, and all its parts. I'm tickled.
