Re: What is the rarest of rare third gen....and also whats the most valuable one?????
A simple search would yield that the answer is obviously Firehawks, TTAs, 1LE, B4C, and '87 LT 'verts. California IROCs are hard to find as well, among select other models/trims throughout the years.
An IROC just sold at Barrett Jackson for sixty grand a couple months ago.

i dont mean an everyday car...such as 1le or anything....im more interested in a one off car thats worth hundreds or thousands....like the very first third gen camaro made? or the last one off the line.....something more along those lines....or the first pace car? or a protoype of some sort.....not something thats on the charts as in...something thats less than 20 made or so....ultra rare etc

Re: What is the rarest of rare third gen....and also whats the most valuable one?????
Yeah, those are the Firehawks. 25 produced. The numbers go up to 27, but that's because 18 and 23 were never built. Also, there were only 4 '88 1LE cars.
The last '92 Camaro is well-known, and the owner is on this site, name LeonardS.
http://last1992camaro.com/
There's a video on YouTube of the above car as well.
EDIT: Here's the $60k IROC: http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli...&aid=403&pop=0

I would think a surviving '86 L69 IROC might make the "rare" list. 69 or so of them made if I recall correctly.

Re: What is the rarest of rare third gen....and also whats the most valuable one?????
I can answer this question. In 1992, two prototype Camaros (z28s I believe) were slammed with the 4thgen 275hp 350 (LS1 correct?), and were parred with the new 6 speed manual transmission. They were fast, infact, they turned out to be faster then the 4thgen with the same combo when tested later. Chevy decided not to put the car into production because the engine and transmission would be put into the new 4thgen models. The two Camaros are still in existence. Somewhere. I assume they would auction for quite alot.
Correction. See post below.

Re: What is the rarest of rare third gen....and also whats the most valuable one?????
Correction. Here is the TGO file on the car.
A Special 25th Anniversary 'Collector's Edition' 1992 Chevrolet Camaro was planned, but then dropped. There were to be 602 (same as the number of 1967 Z/28's) produced. Only two prototypes were completed however. The prototype Collector's Edition Camaro started as a white Heritage Edition RS with black stripes and body colored grill. Then the B4C police package was added. It was equipped with the Corvette L98 5.7 aluminum head engine, fitted with siamesed intake runners, and then tubular headers. This brought the horsepower rating up to 270. They were also equipped with a ZF 6-speed and GTA black `lace' 16x8 wheels. Only 1 of the 2 cars were kept by GM and can still be seen at shows.

Ouch. I'm a huge fan of the heritage stripes. Some cars are to plain. I agree with the painted grill though.

It used a Turbo and intercooled 4.3L an made 295 HP and 385 TQ. They ran a best 0-60 of 5.98s (using something called a Vericom) and a best quarter at 14.77 at 94.6 with a less than purfect launch.

No problem. I wish they would have produced it. Who know's if it's still in exhistence. It's either crushed or in GM's basement somewhere... That's the only time I ever saw it in person. It was amazing and I wish I'd taken more pics of it.

I have a yellow 1986 Irocz with t-top and factory rear window louvers and she was made in Cali. If also had the bigger hp motor that came out in the 2nd half of 1986 and it has the 145 speedo. Does that count at all?

Believe it or not, the 92 Heritage Prototype that they were taking to shows was destroyed a few years ago. Some moron in charge of the warehouse had it dismantled in an effort to make room for more cars in the facility and chose a piece of history like that to get rid of. When higher-ups found out about it he was released from that job. Such a shame.
The LT5 Camaro looks terrible, another shame LOL. I wonder if the Turbo IROC-Z is still around?!

Re: What is the rarest of rare third gen....and also whats the most valuable one?????
There were various Camaro concepts built that are impressive, but there were more interesting Firebird concepts. The Pontiacs were always wilder.
By far the rarest and most valuable thirdgen is the 1992 Firehawk convertible. First it's one of 25 for being a Firehawk. Second it had to be the single most expensive thirdgen ever sold new. Third it's the ONLY Firehawk convertible. Fourth it's the only Firehawk based on a Trans Am instead of a Formula. Keep in mind this is a smog legal, REAL car that was sold to the public.

Third it's the ONLY Firehawk convertible. Fourth it's the only Firehawk based on a Trans Am instead of a Formula. Keep in mind this is a smog legal, REAL car that was sold to the public.
Milton had the good fortune to purchase this Pontiac new. (You may have even seen it in High Performance Pontiac about 10 years ago.) He purposely bought a Trans Am not a Formula, and a convertible not a coupe, from Lee Motor Sales in Ohio for delivery to SLP for the conversion. A congratulatory letter from Ed Hamburger of SLP dated January 10, 1993, stated, "Your 'All American Street Fighter' Trans Am convertible was the only Trans Am Firehawk built and the only convertible Firehawk built." It was also the last, and numbered 27, and because it was a T/A, there is no "Formula Firehawk" graphic on the doors, like the other models.
The Hawk came standard with 1LE suspension, Firehawk 17x9.5 Ronal wheels, and 275/40-17 Firestone Firehawk tires. Drivetrain enhancements included a dual-snorkel air cleaner for the factory 350, a T-Ram intake, Tri-Y headers, performance stainless exhaust that retained the factory cats but featured dual outlet pipes on the driver's side, a lightweight flywheel and clutch assembly, ZF six-speed trans, a 3-inch diameter driveshaft, and a Dana rear with 3.54 gears. Inside, the console was custom for the Firehawk, and the map pocket on the dash featured a Firehawk callout and the car number. SLP also reinforced the chassis since this one is a convertible.
Of course, Milton didn't stop with the base package. His is just 1-of-3 with the 366ci 375-horse aluminum engine option and 1-of-11 with the Competition Package that includes Brembo F-40 front disc brakes, an aluminum hood, Recaro driver seat with a five-point Simpson harness, a rollbar, and a deleted rear seat.
If that weren't enough, he also ordered a matching passenger-side Recaro seat. Both seats are covered in factory leather, and the rollbar is trimmed in matching hides. When all was said and done, just over $39,000 was added to the price of this convertible T/A.

lots of good posts above. Shame about the '92 prototype.
Love the LT5 minus the color combo
Id like to mention the '88 1LE's cars. 4 Camaro's and 3 Trans Am's that year.

The Motion IROC-Zs aren't worth any money today. I spoke to Joel Rosen years ago about these cars and he said they were regular cars that a customer brought to him and optioned it out any way they wanted. He said it was nothing like the 60s and 70s where they had stage 1,2,3 cars that were guaranteed to perform a certain way. They were just a parts warehouse that installed whatever parts the buyer wanted. He said he doesn't have documentation on any of them as they weren't a special car.

I'm waiting on someone to find out the exact number of cars produced with paddle mirrors. Heres a picture of mine. It has carmine interior too with the overhead console. Original motor is a 305 with automatic. Has a 350 now. It has the Flame red paint.

One of the rarest could potentially be the '87 Z28 Convertible 5 speed. Of the 744 Z28 Convertibles produced, the majority of them had the IROC-Z option. Very few were the Z28 and even fewer were 5 speeds.

Willie has an '87 T5 Z 'vert, no?
Also, paddle mirrors aren't worth anything...they were standard equipment on all Asia/European export models. There are two in my city here in Japan.

According to the following Pontiac Car Distribution Bulletin:
http://www.gtasourcepage.com/Pontiac...7cdbs/87F7.jpg
The mirrors were replaced with "regular" mirrors sometime around January in 1987. The exact date is not known.
Given the GTA started production in early fall of 1986, had the second highest production figures when compared to subsequent years, and January 1987 was the discontinue date, I'm not sure how accurate 200 units is.
Edit: Lou W (from Pontiac) previously stated, via GTASourcepage, that the DD9 had so many problems (fit and supply) that the normal mirrors were sometimes used instead.

this has gotta be the most expensive and rare third gen, but it has little to do with the car itself

GM sold one of the these signature cars from their archives on Barrett-Jackson for a whopping $21,600 in 2004. The second one crossed the block in 2010 for $46,200. The one in the link above is the $46k dollar car. The VIN numbers for the two cars are:
1G1FP87F6FN173699 - $46,200 - Has body side moldings (Live Aid Car)
1G1FP87FXFN155061 - $21,600 - No body side moldings (Farm Aid Car)
If I remember correctly, the Live Aid car was on eBay at one point for $499k. Obviously it didn't sell. The owner just keeps advertising it all over for astronomical amounts in the hopes of making some good money.

Wait people are saying Paddles aren't worth anything now? So i basically wasted $1,000 on a car i though was rare? But anyways that paddle mirror car on craigslist looks that russet color which is pretty rare.

I don't think you wasted the money, if you like the car. The worthiness of the paddle mirrors just depends on the perspective buyer, some people really like them, and others don't (I take it Puma is one of the ones that don't).
That car on Craigslist looks to have different bodyside moldings than what came stock, so I get the feeling it has been painted. I'm too bogged down in the one I have to even consider another one though.
