I searched to see if this was posted before and didnt find anything. Look at the intake runners, was this the baisis for all of the saimesed runners to come later? Either way, this car was dam respectible and the engine still holds it own today.

If you dig far enough into google you will find that Guldstrand was asked to use his GS 80 to help test the tires for the ZR-1 in 1986. During the testing the GS 80 set endurence records for high speed testing later broken by the ZR-1. TRACO built the engine but it was still TPI based. When you see pics of the engine look at the siameesed intake runners. Makes you wonder where SLP and the rest got the idea. There is no dispute how this settup performed though. Guldstrand says that it still holds it own against the C6 corvettes 26 years later.

I find it odd they made a 372 cubic inch 350, and that it had oiling problems with the hydraulic cam? Ive always heard that SBC's have excellent oiling, and I find it odd a cam would cause oling problems. I wonder if it was just weird parts from "Eagle" who made the cam.

But still... 372ci?

Also find it odd they were building tricked out aftermarket autocross cars with automatic transmissions.

Traco was/is just about nextdoor to Guldstrand in Van Nuys. They did mucho business together in the eighties. Traco was known for destroking sbc 400's with a 3.48/3.50 crank to get 372ci.
I don't think Eagle parts were so "weird" back then, as they weren't coming out of China.
I think the automatics were for the older guys with money who didn't want to autocross & just wanted to be seen.
Can't quess what the oiling problem would be, but with hi-profile buyers, any isolated problem would be big, thus the engine change. Just my uneducated guess.

Oh okay, I didnt even think about a destroked 400. That makes sense.

And I didnt figure that the Eagle from the 80s that made camshafts was the same one that made rotating assembly parts in China today. Interesting how things evolve.

I looked at the tires and they are BFG comp T/As !
at 1st glance i thought they were the old gatorback tread buuut nope!
I like the Gatorback tire treads myself!

Oops! Well, that angled-block style of tread was really popular back then and it looks good. I prefer it to some of the strange modern tread patterns.
