Re: question on 92 camaro check digit
This 'X" is not common but it is valid. I just ran a Vin# on a 1985 Camaro with the same "X" as a check number. If you want a copy of that Car Check let me know and I'll Email it to you.

Re: question on 92 camaro check digit
The Check digit is calculated by assigning a number to letters, and then multplying each number by an assigned number for the position. (except check digit) you add up all of the numbers and the divide by 11. you will end up with a remainder. You always round up...
Examples
if your remainder is .090 then you have a check digit of 1
If your remainder is .402 then you have a check digit of 5
If your remainder is .909 then you have a check digit of X
If you do not have a remainder, suppose that your total is 275, then you divide by 11 you get 25 then you have a check digit of 0 (zero)
Chances are you are misreading a letter or number.

Re: question on 92 camaro check digit
By the law of averages, Chances are one out of every 11 cars has a check digit of X
