Re: My car's 20th birthday
That's awesome. I love to hear stories from original and long-term owners.
I've always wondered how the two cars I bought new back in the '80s would look and run now, if I had just kept them. I bet I could have saved a ton of money on car payments over the years!!!

Re: My car's 20th birthday
yea, in 2001 I had it:
-re-painted, decals
-new windsheild
-new rims
-new quarter and fender
-new weatherstripping
-fogs, front turn signals
-door hinges
I'm on the 3rd tranny (rebuilds) and 2nd rear, but engine has never been opened. change your oil

CONGRATULATIONS VIKING & HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUR IROC!!!!!
I bought my IROC new in June of 88 and have loved her ever since. I remembered her 20th birthday last year by letting her give me a present - another fabulous drive around the bayou.

Re: My car's 20th birthday
I'm on the 3rd tranny so it only gave up the ghost twice. I wish I had an exciting story as to why, just miles. Same for the rear. I always did the oil and filter changes about every 20-30K and did the rear at about the same interval. I think about 150,000 mi per rebuilt tranny is doing pretty good.
If anyone on the board has over 200K on a 700R4 I'd be surprised.

Congrats on 20 years, I drove my car off the lot 18 years ago last Jan., it's only pushing 200,000 miles, no trans repair on it yet but it's a 5-speed with the original clutch disk still, here is mine from about a year ago...

Re: My car's 20th birthday
I'd be hard pressed to tell which is which. I doubt there is another IROC in the world with that kind of mileage that looks as clean and unmolested as yours. If it weren't for the "digital" resolution of the bottom picture, I would say it could pass for a 1989 photograph. Great job maintaining this car!

I have 289,000 miles on my 1991 Formula 350 TPI 700r4 I bought new and I have never changed the trans fluid. The pan gasket started leaking a couple of years ago I put about 1 Qt in it a year. Daily driver back n forth to work. Needs restored as the paint and rust are getting bad.

You have done an amazing job on the upkeep of that car. I bet people get strange looks on their faces when you surprise them with the mileage on it. Props to you sir.

Don't ever get rid of her. With that many miles you put on it.. you would look back and kick yourself in the azz for getting rid of it. I'm sure it has a lot of sentimental value to you.
