window sticker question...

Just recently my uncle and i have purchased invoices for our third gens.

he's got a 85 iroc z and i got a 89 gta....
he already got his invoice in a few days ago, i'm still waiting on mines.

He thought that by ordering the invoice that it would come with the window sticker, which i already knew it doesn't...it just gives you the permission of gettting a reproduction one...(which we both are intending on doing)

Now the question i have is that, back in the day if a customer ordered their new Fbody car with the options they wanted, did a window sticker come with the vehicle? or was it opt out due to the fact that the owner already knew what he ordered? Any help would be appreciated!

Re: window sticker question...

By law the car would have had a Window sticker.

I want to think back in the late 50's it was made law that each NEW car was required to have a window sticker... My parents special ordered a car back in 1995, but decided to get another model that was on the lot after the car was orderd. The car came with a window sticker and then the dealer sold the car.

Re: window sticker question...

thanks for the info! You just turned on a light in my head...and i remember hearing something about that as well what you stated being a law...

It's for the purpose to inform customers on what is being equipped with the vehicle, in that regards, it's a document that would possibly protect the dealers from "false advertisment" with their product...

Re: window sticker question...

Gee and I wonder why the Bill Heard dealerships went under!!!

Bill Heard would remove the factory sticker (against the law) and add a dealer sticker with an absolutely ridiculous price. They then advertised the push, pull or drag it in used car deal and get $10k for your trade. They used the $10k to reduce the ridiculous price on the car and bring it down to MSRP. Some people were actually tricked into thinking this was ok.

I looked at a new 2003 Monte Carlo SS with an MSRP of $31k. The window sticker was missing, but the supplement showed the cars value at $42k. The sales rep said that if I had a respectable trade, they would work off of different numbers. I walked away!!!

Always look for the MSRP window sticker that matches the vehicle. If the dealer doesn't have it or can't locate it, leave.

Re: window sticker question...

I know here in MI it is law for even a USED car to have a slip on the window at a dealership, they usually do not have any prices on them, basically it states that the car has or does not have a warranty, options, make, model, VIN, stock number. When I bought my Rainier V8 the used window sticker fell off the window and I tried to give it to the salesman. He would not touch it to save his life. It was so bad I thought someone sneezed on it and he did not want to catch a deadly disease. He told me (Kindly) to "just put it back inside, in the glove box was fine." Oddly enough this was even after I told him that I would take the vehicle.

Re: window sticker question...

I ordered my 1989 Formula 350 from the dealer. He removed the sticker from the door, and left it in the vehicle. I think it's part of the standard 'Dealer Prep'. They also take the plastic wrap off the seats, and the foam blocks off the bumpers, doors etc. They may also screw the antenna in, too.
