Looking at those pics the interior looks real clean. I would like to have those seats. But,, the exterior looks pretty bad. I wonder how much rust/corrosian has set in? I'm sure the motor has froze too. Its really too bad it was not stored properly! Is it worth 10K?? Hmmmmm

Just a comment if looking for more opinions on the matter it is being discussed in the thread that has the video. Most including me say it better run and have at least the correct rims included for 10 grand.

The guy that bought the 3-mile '83 T/A last year hasn't had any luck selling it for big money.

i would figure cleaning the car and correct wheels would bring in more money and make the car more presentable. the dingy dirty pics and video can be added as story/history but the do not do the car justice of looking like a 4 mile car.....

The seller is a real a$$. At least wash the damn car. Put the original rims on it. If one of us got this car like he did, think about the respect we would give it. When we first saw the video on youtube a couple of weeks back, I could'nt wait to see this car all cleaned up. What a disapointment.

rather have a 5K mileage IROC that was looked after then this. At least wash/detail it and out on the IROC wheels. Very lame.

I hope the seller gets the price they are hoping for. Looks like a cool car to have, and an amazing study in Camaro history.

Re: The 85 IROC w/4 miles is on e-bay!

$10,000 is only the starting price. There's also a reserve price so he's not selling the car for $10k. I don't really know what the car is worth but it's definitely worth CONSIDERABLY more than $10k. A car with FOUR miles on it that didn't even go through dealer prep is something that we may never see again.

Sure, the car looks pretty bad in the condition it's in I can understand why the buyer wouldn't clean it and risk damaging some of the factory markings. I think I would have washed it but I understand his thinking as well. I can definitely understand not getting the right wheels on it. I'm sure it wouldn't be easy to find a set of IROC wheels that are in "NEW" condition. I would just leave that for the next buyer as well.

I'm curious to see how high it gets even if it doesn't meet it's reserve. It's not exactly the best time to sell a car like that so I wouldn't be shocked if it didn't meet it's reserve.

Re: The 85 IROC w/4 miles is on e-bay!

I agree with Denny on this. It will be hard to sell it for big money in this market. But as far as not cleaning it or doing anything to it, I would not want someone to clean that car. This particular seller from watching the video, does not really sound like he is "fit" to take care of one of the rarest cars of our generation. An original 4 mile non dealer prepped car is something that is priceless, and needs to be take care of properly by the proper people. I can just see someone finding it in a trailer and taking it to the local detail shop to detail it. How bad would you all feel then? That car is not being bought to be driven. Who ever buys it will hopefully clean and refresh it "properly" and then show it as the car deserves to be shown.
Case and point, the 91 Green Formula that sold on ebay for a bit over $11K a year ago, with 220 miles on it from the original owner. That car was purchased by some shmuck that thought he'd make money on it. So he put 100 some miles on the car, registered it in his name and put the front licence plate bracket on it! WTF was this guy thinking? Of Course he did not make any money on it and the car was bought by some dealer that is still trying to sell a 2 owner, 440 mile, front licence plate bracket having car.
Point I'm trying to make is, with a car like this IROC, leave the "cleaning" and prepping to the professionals. Yes it's not as shiny in the ebay ad. But it is also not as improperly cared for as it could have been. Give it time, let it get to hoperfully the right buyer and then you will see shiny pictures.

Re: The 85 IROC w/4 miles is on e-bay!

Other than the dust, looks really clean-looked like there
was no coolant in the recovery tank,so maybe whoever
stashed the car drained the coolant and gas-if so
startup might not be too tough-way overfill engine with
oil to lube crank, bores, etc.,take out plugs, shoot a little
oil in each cyl.crank over a bit with plugs out, reinstall
plugs,drain oil to proper level,add coolant,check tranny
fluid, put in gas prime and start up-often decades-dormant cars come back to life easy and run like new
- heard of an '82 vette that sat for 18 yrs that started
right up and ran like new after the stuck injectors
were freed up-tranny worked fine too.
On the other hand if camaro wasn't prepped right
before being stashed away,it could be quite a mess
-fouled gas tank, corroded cooling system, rusted bores
etc. Still what a time capsule !!!

Re: The 85 IROC w/4 miles is on e-bay!

agreed with rpm and lfn, seldomly do you see a car being this original with the amount of milage on it! You read mags that are "barn finds" that has low milage and of course not all cars are in perfect condition when they are found! (given thee example of this iroc-z) If anything, most "barn finds" are in need of restoration after years of being in solitude! However, keep in mind, when you see a car that's all there, you have to think about how many are left out there, have low milage, and ain't tinkered with! That alone will give you an idea of the value of the car. Other then the missing wheels, and the collection of dust, this unmolested car deserves the proper restoration work and if i was like that guy who's selling the car, i wouldn't take the liberty of bringing such a rare find into my own care unless i hire professionals to recondition it! (sell as is!) Give it to someone who will do the right thing and care for it, the right way!

I mean what if you found an untouched, all original 70 454 LS-6, 4spd, 3.73 rear end, ss chevelle in a truck without the original wheels, in years of collection of dust, wouldn't you think it's worth something, still? Would you actually play around with it to a point where it may lose it value, before selling it?

The collection of documentation on the iroc-z is worth something alone as shown in the pics! I believe the original build sheet is even with the rest of the documentation and that alone would make that kinda car more desirable....

but in any case, it's only as valuable as you see it. Everyone has their own opinion! I for one, see it as a piece of american history that will shine once again! Good luck, whoever acquires it in returning it to it's former glory!

I don't know about the price, but if I were looking to buy it, I wouldn't want the seller to do anything to it. Especially not to wash it or try to start it up. After sitting that long it needs special attention, if they were to just get in and crank it over they'd probably do more damage.

Once again, it seems that the guy selling it knows just about enough about the car to know that it is a Camaro. You don not want this guy bringing the car out of hibernation. What is the big deal with the lack of rims?
IMO it is well worth quite a bit more then $10K.

really where would you find someone that is "PRO" now n days i been to alot of dealers and detail shops and have of them just half A$$ things so who would you really go to a restore place??? and those are not easy to find i think the guy should have given it to a museum. its a part of history i really hope someone doesnt buy it and drive it cuz then its really not worth anything anymore it would just be another car with a little story behind it. as everyone has said it should be a show car i hope the person that buys it does just that good luck to anyone on here that buys it.

Not worth $10k??? That's crazy, I'd say in the exact condition this car is in it's worth at least double that. I wouldn't be at all suprised to see this car pull in between $20k to $25k, possibly more.

The only question is a matter of timing. Personally, I would have waited a little longer to sell it. However, maybe he figures the economy is going to get worse before it gets better (I know I do) and thinks it's best to unload it now. All we can do is wait and see what it does.

but will whoever buys it at least give it the rims it so rightly deserves and at least get it running and cleaned up.

I still stand by my statement of if you pay more than what the one off prototypes went for at Barrett Jackson you paid too much. But then again everyone has their own opinion.

Re: The 85 IROC w/4 miles is on e-bay!

I'm not sure I understand the desire to have the engine run, especially at this stage. If the car was to expected to be a daily driver (hope not), then that would be different. But this isn't a daily driver. Due to what this car is (original, low mileage, non-dealer prepped car), the engine running or not would mean little to myself at this stage. It's not like it could never run. I'd be content with the car itself, the information, etc., and would not be bothered if the engine ever could turn over or not. But then again, my '92 TA Convertible hasn't been turned over for a few years either. Oops.

As stated above, I hope the new owner ends up here on TGO and keeps us updated and supplies more detailed pictures.

If it was going to lets say the Petersen Museum to sit on a turntable for the rest of its life then not running is one thing. But how many priceless museum pieces are also runners? I can think of some of the most desirable cars in the world that are in musuems that run, Ferrari GTOs are runners, Bugatti Royales are runners, the Alfa Romeo B.A.T. cars are runners, several Motorama cars are runners even the original Corvette show car is a runner and is driven short distances occasionally (probably on and off trailers). I guess to me if it runs then its even more of a time capsule because its a running brand new off the factory car. They were running cars when they left the factory. I guess thats why I want it to be a runner. But like I said whoever owns the car can do what they want to it. Its not going to be mine thats for sure.....

Re: The 85 IROC w/4 miles is on e-bay!

Definitely would be a bonus if the engine is OK, no doubts about that. I suppose some would like the thrill of throwing a new battery in it, flush the liquids, and see how long it takes to bring it back to life. Given it was probably improperly stored, it's not going to be like a new engine and it's likely not going to be a turn-key. It's going to take work, or should take work, to do it correctly. I was only stating my personal opinion that I would not care if the engine was running or not, at this stage, due to what this car is really about. But then again, I would not be driving it. It would be on a showcase, and therefore, wouldn't need to be running. I'd be content. But yes, it would be nice to have the engine run. I'm sure it can, given work.

I suppose I also look at your list of cars as being different from this Camaro, aside from the fact those cars probably had different storage. Those cars you mention would be a "joy" and unique to run and drive on occasion to the average person as they aren't your every day car. To the average person, this is a ThirdGen Camaro with the 305 LG4 - no offense intended.

But I can share your statement that this car won't be mine, either.

Re: The 85 IROC w/4 miles is on e-bay!

I sure hope one of the serious f-body collectors gets it! If it were mine, I would want it in running condition, but would not drive it. In 1979, we revived a 1959 Buick Invicta that had been parked in a garage in Georgia back in 1960with 3K miles on it. The car washed up nice, however the garage was not air conditioned, and humidity had taken it's toll on the car. Three of the four tires still had air in them, and the one that had gone flat had the side of the rim rusted off where it came in contact with the cement floor. We were able to get the engine running, even though the car had been parked, but not prepared for storage. The fuel system had to be replaced, and the fuel tank was rusted out. The brakes were shot. The transmission was shot. Dash guages were all stuck. Power windows frozen up. Cables frozen in place. Vaccum lines rotted away. The engine did OK. The add-on A/C charged up and worked perfectly. I believe that there will be more wrong with it, then right, but it surely needs to be saved.

Re: The 85 IROC w/4 miles is on e-bay!

I personally think it should be cleaned up, highly detailed from top to bottom, (suspension, everything) have its front GFX and some IROC rims put on, and basically stay untouched every other way cosmetically. I'd leave the plastic on the seats and all that. That being said, I would definetly try to inspect it all and get it running, it should drive a couple of times in its existence LOL. Like around the block a few times and into trailers for shows mostly though. I'd also try to track down some original tires somewhere.

A car like this will be a alot of work to "make right" (maybe a ton mechanically actually) and to enjoy they way it should be, as a muesum-type piece. Most people wouldn't find that fun. It would be nice if the car was TPI, but it doesn't matter that much. Most cars that sit in collections on display never have the hood open anyway. Still, it's basically a brand new car in alot of ways and you just don't see that. This must be our only documented still dealer unprepped Third Gen out there. Regardless of engine, options, etc., if it's kept right it could be worth ALOT many years from now and be well known in magazines and on the show circuit. For a variety of reasons, low mileage originals are extremely important to the legacy of any line of collectible cars.

Chances are, to get it running you would have to molest it. Not something I would do. That car needs to be cleaned up a bit, thrown up on display, and locked forever.

Re: The 85 IROC w/4 miles is on e-bay!

As I said in the other thread, I think the story is worth as much as the car in this case.

To each his own, but I would not own any car that did not run properly, whether I planned to drive it or not. My cars need to be road-ready at all times (or at least be able to make it around the show field under their own power). I can't see spending a fortune on a run-of-the-mill LG4 car, just because it has plastic on the carpet, and then having to spend possibly thousands more getting it to run.

The "4 miles" thing gets you nothing but bragging rights in this case. I have seen cars with 400 or 4000 miles that are in better condition.

I would bet that this car's storage is going to create issues with the paint and cosmetics, as well. Usually when cars have been left unwashed that long, in a non-climate-controlled dirty environment, getting them looking good is not as easy as just washing them off. Even if cleaned it may never truly look like a new car. The seller may know this, and that's why he wants to sell in "as found" condition.

Personally I'd rather have a rarer or more performance-optioned car, with a few more miles, but well maintained, without any issues, road-ready. Hey, wait, that's what I have...

Re: The 85 IROC w/4 miles is on e-bay!

The car I own is a 28K original car. Although it is not a rare car, it has some nice options. Granted it's not a 4 mile NEW unprepped car, but like others have said, a lightly used car in well maintained condition has it's merits also. I would love to own a 4 mile car, but would not want to undertake the process of the restoration of a car that has been neglected for 24 years. The real find would be a 4 mile car that was properly prepared for storage, totally original, full documentation, kept in a humidity controlled environment, with some minimal cleaning done during it's time in storage. I don't want too much do I?

Well, I can tell you the reserve is over $15,000. I was guessing his reserve was probably between $17,500 and $20,000.

If one of our members gets it, maybe they will document what work they decide to do on it here in the website. I would love to watch the resto... It would also be cool to see it on display at Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.

I would buy it if i had the money! Say what you want but there are things on that car that most of us will NEVER see! plus, with the proper care, it will run!! as for the rims, you can buy after market roc wheels brand new, you cannot buy a new iroc whether it's fuel injected or carbed!!
