Congrats on your latest purchase. It looks like it went to a good home.
The 87-92 GTA will almost always be worth more than the 87-92 T/A (not counting TTAs) as they were the top of the line car those years and are more sought after. Not to knock regular Trans Am's though. When I was in high school, before I learned about GTA's, I wanted an 86ish blue and silver Trans Am.
your assuming the GTAs will be more valuable than a Trans Am. I'm thinking out loud here, but who is to say the TA will become more valuable than a GTA.
Not sure what the numbers are, but i'm curious on production numbers on the two models between 1987-1992.
Plus, the TA came with all the hi-po engines without the added weight of the GTA.

Congrats on the purchase, looks like a nice car
The TTA option (Y82) was not available on a T/A (WS4) but was only available on a GTA (Y84).

You are more than likely correct, BUT there comes a point when people will get more serious about 3rd Gens, like they did about the GTO, and the Mopars. When that happens, cars that may be inexpensive now, may be worth more then.
From a historical standpoint cars that did not have all the frills tend to get more attention. the 1LE cars, the lightweight street fighters. This Trans Am has the 350, which is really quite unusual for a non GTA...
One thing that I notice about these cars is we are getting some SERIOUS people around here. As time goes on, we will get more of these people that have some money and they really like them. A few years ago no one would have been fighting over this car, but now we had two members that were willing to buy it sight unseen... It is almost unbelievable...
I do not think you are wrong about the GTA being worth more, but I do not think you are right either. I think no one is actually Right when it comes to telling the future, it is all a guess until we get there. Hindsight is always 20/20 and there is a reason for it, what we go on is what the past has told us. We all may wake up one morning and find out that all 3rd gens with a 350 are about equal in value, regardless of model. Honestly I think that will be where it is at, The Pontiac may outpace the Camaro slightly, or vise-verse, but honestly the engine for the most part determines the value more than the trim, when it becomes known that there were less Trans Am's with the engine than the GTA or Z28, The T/A may become more desirable because they are more scarce.

Re: Clean '92 Yellow Trans Am for sale.
Can we gather a breakdown for production numbers again on JY cars for 92.
As per our last thread we had a number of 26, but were not sure if those were Formulas or all Firebirds.
I personally have never seen a JY 92 TA that was not a GTA, and especially an L98 car. The only other one is Leo's but that is a GTA isn't it?
John???

My 92 is a Trans Am and not a GTA, also mine is a 1LE, There were no GTA 1LE's in 92.
Congrats on the purchase of the JY T/A, awesome.
That car was less than 100 miles from were I live and I thought about going to see it but I figured why would I want with 2 JY cars, you have the right idea having 3 colors or "Stop Light Collection"
Good luck and tell us more about it when you get it home.

Re: Clean '92 Yellow Trans Am for sale.
You are correct, no GTA 1LE's ever.
The numbers I have is 26 Yellow Formulas, 14 GTA's and I remember seeing somewhere 34 or 36 JY Trans Am's
Some things about these numbers, I am not sure if the 26 number also includes Firebirds, as the way it was presented at the Trans Am nationals it did.
The 34 or so JY Trans Am's I am also not sure if that included GTA's...
Leo, There was a Yellow 1LE Trans Am at the Trans Am nationals a few years ago that was for sale, not sure if that was your car or not... Also the VERY FIRST 1992 was a JY Formula 1LE (LB9/M5)
VIN 1G2FS31F?NL200001...

Re: Clean '92 Yellow Trans Am for sale.
Leo, nice to hear from you! So you have the famous 1LE car that everyone is drooling over, myself included. I thought that car was a GTA for some reason!
I have the car home finally, really enjoyed LA for the 4 hours I was there, I liked the 80` temps! -10 in Chicago at the time.
http://s135.photobucket.com/albums/q...%20Trans%20Am/
Here's an interesting thing about this car, it is sequence number 202xxx with a build date of Aug 26 1991, so this is a very early car. Anyone have the VIN on that JY Formy 1LE car that is owned by PHS and was the first 1992 Firebird produced?

Yes sir it will be there! I think Denny will be happy that my Red TA won't be causing any more confusion in the classes with it's stock/modified wheels like last year!

Yeah John, he's a local celebrity now. I got people calling me every day to tell me they saw him in the magazine. And thanks to Bruce for making sure that my GTA did not make it in the issue. I was wondering what Tom DeMauro meant when he said that they already have enough 3rd Gens, but when I got the magazine, it all became clear. Bastard! But in all reality, Bruce's car looks amazing. #24 is the Med Green Metallic one, right?

Re: Clean '92 Yellow Trans Am for sale.
Mark,
I also know that Terry had his Blue 88 Formula 350 in HPP either last month or the month before...
Here is a REALLY funny story for you...
You know that Alex was kind enough to give me and my friend Andy a ride in his car, and you know that I know Bruce pretty well, this was priceless.
I had just gotten HPP in the mail about an hour before and I noticed Alex's car on the front, as I was looking through I noticed Bruce's car but prior to getting to actually read anything I had to shuffle off to Wally-World for some groceries with my Wife.
So there I was in Wal-Mart browsing through the magazine rack looking for Greg's article with all of his cars. As I was flipping the pages of so many worthless mags there was a gentleman looking through the latest Hemmings. Curiosity got the best of me and I had to inquire what he was looking for, and he told me he wanted a 60's Vette. Then he was telling me about he knew someone that had a 60's Vette that had an LS1 and Turbo setup that was running in the 11's and still got 20MPG. I quickly scanned the mags and pulled a HPP to show him Alex's car.
As i was caressing the pages of the HPP I passed Bruce's car I quickly said "I know him Bruce is really cool." then I got to Alex's car and said "Alex is really cool too and I took a ride in this car." Pointing to the picture, I followed up with, "and it was Holy Crap Fast! he is in the 10's and gets 22 on the highway."
I get this glazed over look from the guy, I think he thought I was full of crap or something. Honestly I think I would have thought the same thing about some idiot talking about people in magazines like he actually knows them. The funniest part is it was all true...
I guess you had to be there but it was a site, the glazed over eyes & all... I still chuckle.

Sorry, couldn't resist...
John, did you notice the JY 92 Formula that was for sale on the Detroit CL last fall? It was up for a few days but disappeared before I had talked myself into calling on it or posting it on here. The ad made no mention of the powertrain details, however it was claimed to be in excellent original condition and the price was LOW.
BTW, nice score Mark.

NO I did not see it...
I passed on a JY 92 Formula LO3 in Newaygo MI about 5 or 6 years ago... was asking WAAY too much for an LO3 IIRC.

Can't be too many of them around here, maybe it was the same one?
My recollection is that they were only asking around 4 grand for it.

John, I can imagine, and I am chuckling thinking about you talking to some random guy at WWorld about people in mags that you "know" Great story.
I saw Terry's car in there a few months back and still cannot believe that he scored that low at TA Nats, blows my mind! That car was spotless, we even took the wheels off and center the center caps!
