Something I've never seen
This is a very interesting Camaro in my book. Beside the obvious, hardtop vert, I notice Firebird wheels, and seems to have a newer style lower valince and rocker panels. Probably a real head turner, but was just wondering if anyone else has seen one of these or if it is a custom job?

Re: Something I've never seen
I remember reading something about these somewhere in these forums. I can't remember for what reason they were made.
Some special occassion or something like that. Maybe someone could shed some light on it.

Re: Something I've never seen
Those aren't GTA wheels, they're the smaller 15" firebird crosslace wheels. I have seen one other convertible done like that, it was an 86 IROC if I remember correctly. I think 92RS is correct, it's an autoform conversion. The ASC cars still retained the back seat, had a ragtop, and a more proper looking trunk lid.
See here for info, although for firebird:

Re: Something I've never seen
No one seemed to notice that it was a HARD TOP convertible... Unusual indeed. I have seen a only one other. It does appear to be an Autoform conversion, but I never considerd that they woudl have offered a Hard top option... All of the other Autoforms that I can think of were rag tops...

Re: Something I've never seen
I like the looks of it with the top off. Although I would do something with gfx and different wheels, but it's kind of cool. I like the two seater look. But that hard top is nasty.

The rag top varient of the Autoform was not much better IMHO with the top up...

Re: Something I've never seen
I believe the reason why it was made that way was due to the space restrictions in the boot (trunk) area... It was NOT style... Convertible tops are not usually for show they are for function... Keep you dry until it stops raining...

Re: Something I've never seen
I seem to remember reading that the Autoform conversion was basically a fiberglass shell covered with fabric and I believe that the back part of the top snapped down. Perhaps this one just got the canvas left off?

That could make sense, since I don't see a manufacturer sending that thing out to the public.

Never-the-less very interesting. I wish I could see a pic of how the roof sits when retracted.

Re: Something I've never seen
Dated a girl back in the mid-eighties who had one of these cars. Always had squeaks and wind noise. She sold it after driving it for about 3 months. POS.
