Re: 470mile Formula For Sale $22k
This was on ebay a few months ago. The car is beautiful but in the grand schema of things the car is nothing but a very low mileage Formula which is very difficult to find. Its an LO3 with a Stick crank windows and I don't think it has power locks either. I'm not sure that they will get 22K out of it maybe if it was a TPI with a stick it might bring that. But it will make someone a very nice Fromula.

Re: 470mile Formula For Sale $22k
They made too many cars, and 1991 is too recent for it to be worth this. And maybe if it was something more rare, but a Formula with a 5.0 isn't a rare vehicle. Great car, I'm sure the buyer will be happy with the car, but its not a wise investment at that price.

Re: 470mile Formula For Sale $22k
That car was on ebay a few months back I think it only got up to $12K Which is a fair price IMHO...
The FACT is that the car is a stripped down Formula, the only options it appears to have at a glance is AC, Rear defog, cruise, and AM/FM cassette...
Granted there was not much more you could put on the Formula but even with Power Windows, Locks and a Hatch release, there is no market for a LO3 Firebird or Camaro... If the car was a Formula 350, loaded out with T-tops and the black wheels. then yeah I could see spending that kind of cash...

Re: 470mile Formula For Sale $22k
I'm guessing that the person who buys this car will never drive it in order for it to keep its value. To me that's boring. I'd rather buy something that had 30,000 miles on it so I would'nt be afraid to drive it.........Plus you would pay a lot less for a 30,000 mile car.

Re: 470mile Formula For Sale $22k
Unfortunately that car is becoming the village bicycle. It was on ebay by the orig owner about 5 months ago, 221 miles and closed for around $11.6K. A month or so later that same car was back up by the new onwer with now 322 miles on it and a front plate bracket installed, he relisted is 3 times and tried to get a buy it now of anywhere between 13K to 17.5K. Very weird auctions all 3 times he kept changing the BIN price and the reserve up and down. Then eventually he sold it to this car lot that is now trying to flip if for twice what the orig owner sold it for just 5 months ago and with literally twice the mileage!! For that particular car, 400 miles is not low at all, it had 221 just a few months ago. This is a case of uneducated people thinking that they can make a quick and easy buck. They have all failed. That car was maxed out at $12K when the OO sold it.
Very nice car and if I hadn't just purchased my 1991 GTA a few weeks pryor, I would have bought it from the OO.

Answer me this: How does a car from 1991 sit for that long and NOT get driven?
Here's another: What moron thought that it would be a good idea to store an LO3 car for 15+ years and make money on it?
Geez.

Re: 470mile Formula For Sale $22k
First, from what the OO said while selling it, he bought it on a whim while buying some other car, and never intended to buy this car. It must have been a good deal and he had nothing else to do. He did not intend to store it and try to make $$ on it. He just never drove it bc he didn't really need it. Finally decided to get rid of it and it drew a fair price when he sold it. Now the ones trying to resell it for 17 or 22K are the "morons" thinking that an L03 car is worth half a million dollars. Not even realizing that they totally f-ed the car up by changing hands 3 times, doubling the mileage and putting a front plate frame on it for no reason.

Re: 470mile Formula For Sale $22k
The dealership or another mid-term owner probably found the bracket and thought... Gee this should be on the front of the car...
Or they bumped something and cracked the paint and decided to hid it under the braket.
Either way the bumper needs to be filled and repainted before I would even consider it at this price... NOT like I would consider it... I would get the L98 car first...

Re: 470mile Formula For Sale $22k
Amen to above on the front license plate destroying the front bumper. I hate to see license plates on the front even though some states require it by law.
I love that car, come on guys! It is a 1991 Formula with the body and rims of a classic looking car. So what it is manual windows and carb engine, could modify that with an easy edelbrock car to out run anything in its class compared to the TPI.
Prices! Yes, the prices are not what people think. Look at Hawk #20, guy thought he was going to get 50 plus on eBay easy the day it was listed with all the hype, just goes to show how much people like these cars when money is involved. Andrew

Re: 470mile Formula For Sale $22k
The ONLY 3rd gen in my opinion right now that would be worth more than $40K would be one of the three TTA Convertibles, or the only 92 Firehawk Convertible... Followed by the Firehawk and TTA, then the 350 powered Verts...

Re: 470mile Formula For Sale $22k
Actually a VIN with a higher number than GM sais it built may be easily explained by the fact that they may have made some test cars in a particular year. GM might not count those cars in some instances when releasing information to the public. It like the Legondary 50 L98 cars that were made in 1986. They may have not included those cars in the final count as the cars were not released to the public...
I deal with aircraft every day and there are some aircraft serial numbers that it appears that they simply skip over, but then they have groups of aircraft that have serial numbers which seem out of the blue. In many of these cases the factory would make a modification which was not in the original "Approved" Aircraft and used as a test bed. Then they assign a new SN to the Aircraft and start a new line. Because they make so few aircraft in comparison the Cars its easier to trace...
Using the 1986 350 cars as a case in point. Chevrolet may have made the cars, and they used the serial numbers for the line, in the end the cars were pulled and were used for test purposes. Since the cars were not DOT approved they were never titled for sale and probably not included in the final count...
Just a thought...
I just golfed with a guy last night that works for the Proving grounds here in MI, next time I see him and think about it I will ask him if he knows anything...

They advertise a child seat as an option. What does a child seat look like in a third gen? Ive never seen or heard of one before in these cars. My wife has one in her minivan. I didnt realize they made third gen's family friendly.

Still overpriced i stand behind my prevous staments. The problem is it is an LO3... No matter what else it has on it. IF it was a L98 or LB9/M5 car it would have been sold long ago...
