What should I get with $6000?

Alright so I'm going to be working full time over the summer after graduation and am going to be making a little over 6000. I have an 86 Trans Am with a 700r4 and a 305 tpi. I've done exhaust and intake already. I definately want to upgrade to a 350 sooner or later and I would convert to a manual trans too. I was going to put in 4.10 gears pretty soon also. Do you guys think I would have enough to convert to LS?

No, Switching those parts are expensive, I will always remember my late brother telling me when I was young and wanting a third gen, " Money buys speed" and it sticks with me to this day. Andrew

Any outstanding bills? Credit card balances? Pay them off,...stop wasting $ on interest & THEN consider spending what's left on "toys".

But, leave some $ as a cushion to fall back on.

No kidding, If you figure your going to make $6000 this summer I would be that by the end you will have $1500 in your pocket and that will be without trying.

Honestly, Get the money in your hand before you start planning on how to spend it. I would do a check list and then get prices for what you really want to do. Once you get an idea of how much it will cost, figure out what you should do all at one time. For example, if you want a larger engine, then would be a good time to invest in a cam, and higher compression and possibly a better transmission. It is futile to install something only to remove what you have done only to replace or upgrade a part because you did not do it the first time.

Make a list of what you want, don't ask on what you should spend your money on, if you want to just spend money, send me a cashiers check for $1000 for my project, thats what I would do. .

All joking aside, start looking into what you want, no one can tell you what you should do.

Re: What should I get with $6000?

I think one of the things you can do which will save money is
1) do as much as you can yourself. THis will cut the cost in half but increase the time it takes by four.
2) With a good plan look at how things are put together, you only want to disassemble and reassemble ONCE so if your going to change the Torque Convertor, it does not make sence to rebuild the transmission and then TC later.
