Player's Limited 1LE R7u

Looking for info on Player's Limited cup cars.

I have found a car , but can't find 1LE or R7U on the tags.

The car is an 88 has a full cage, no radio all the G92, G80, J65, no power options,305 5 spd. full halon (spelling) fire suppression system in it. and still painted in original colours with faded decals. On the top of the plenum it has a sticker GM motorsports inspected.

Is there an way to verify it's origin? Is there a different code I should be looking for?

Where these cars all built by GM or purchased and then built by the owner to certain specs?

Owner says before 89 they never had 1LE or R7U on the option tags.
Is this true?

Any help I can get on this car would be great.

By the way this is a Canadian car.

Thanks

It could be...

In 1988 the 1LE was a very limited production, of only 3 Trans Am's and only a handful of Camaros as well. In 1989 there were quite a few more, as most of them probably went again to the series, and a few owners happened to puck all the right stuff.

Unfortunately a base car without any options is worthless compared to a loaded out otherwise the same counterpart in my opinion. BUT take that same striped down car put 1LE on it and it becomes more valuable, In reality the value of a true 1LE car would probably bring about the same amount, if not 10% more in the real world as a car that had every availalbe option.

IF you cant verify it as being a true 1LE, then its probably a car that someoen put a cage in, and possibly brakes. I would be leary if it was not proven otherwise.

In 1988, Player's cars were option code A4U. Check the RPO sheet. If that is not there, take the VIN to your local GM parts counter and ask them to run it.

If the car is an eastern car, then there should be a plaque on the cowl just below the driver's wiper arm. This will have the driver's number on it. This can be used to verify who raced it.

1988 A4U cars will have 1LE front brakes, the engine will have the paint markings on various bolts, there may still be a GM motorsports decal on top of the motor.

Many of the old race cars continued to race after the series, so some of the original equipment may not be there.

I have tons of info on the series. Drop me a PM with your email and we can discuss in detail.

Mark.
