Original owners list!

I thought it would be neat to list all of our original owners!!
My car was purchased by me on 5/4/89, with 48 miles on it from Whitlow Chevrolet in Midlothian, Va. The d/s window had a media-use disclaimer, the car had been used in print ads for the 1990 model year, even though it was an '89! This may be my car, but their were a number of black RS' in the print and TV ads for 1989 & 1990.
Let's see those one-owner cars!!!

I wish I were so lucky to have purchased a '92 New but there was no way I could. However, I finally did manage my dream when I ordered and bought my 2002 Firehawk. Was there snapping pictures and rolling video as it rolled in on the truck. Took off work and waited 6+ hours for it to arrive.

Bought mine new in '85. Still have it. Spent way too much. Only you folks over 40 can comprehend paying 14.5% on a new car loan (my brother paid 17% on his motorcycle!)

I bought my red '88 GTA on September 23, 1988 at Premier Pontiac/Nissan in Little Rock, AR.... mileage at delivery was 61.

It was the last '88 GTA at any dealer in Arkansas when I got it.

You bought a car new in '89, that makes you old! Thats OK, I graduated high school that year, so I'm kinda old too!

My dad bought my former '94 Camaro SC new from Gilcrest Chevrolet in Tacoma, WA. He drove it for 4 years and then sold it to me. It had less than 30,000 miles on it and still had the 'new car smell'! He always kept it garaged and had all of the service records meticulously cataloged. Whenever he washed it, he dried it with a cloth diaper and then it went right into the garage. I lusted after that car for 4 years before I could afford to buy it from him in '98.

Car: 1987 Firebird Formula

Transmission: 700R4
I thought I'd bring this post back from the dead since I just found it.

I purchased my Formula brand new from Johnson Chysler Dodge in Budd Lake, NJ in January of 1987. I had bought what I thought was a mint low mileage 1982 Firebird S/E from them a few weeks earlier but it had a cracked engine block. They took back that car and got me the Formula from their Pontiac dealership. I can't find the window sticker right now but it was around $13,700.

I bought a 1991 Z28 5.7 while stationed in Adak Alaska through the Overseas Military Sales Program (my ex and I were the island reps for the company). With my discount, GM rebates etc, my nearly loaded Z28 (no leather) was delivered to RK Chevy in VA Beach for 15,995. The dealer hid the car way in the back so no one else would see the sticker (Similar Z28's on the lot were listing at $22K sticker!).
The only new car I've ever bought.

I brought my 82 Firebird on Jan 26th, 1982. It came with the LG4, 200c, and 195/70r14 tires. Now it has 350 TPI, 4L60e, 245/50vr16 tires and a bunch of suspension upgrades. Its no longer the same car! But when you set behind the wheel, its still 1982.

Original owner of three thirdgens, each black with t-tops:

1982 Z28: took delivery early spring '82. I sold it when I ordered my '83.

1983 Z28 HO: took delivery July '83. It was stolen in spring '86, or I'd still have it.

1987 Formula: took delivery January 6, 1987, and I still have it. It's by far my favorite of all three. And since I can never get another brand new one, I'll always have this one. To me, it's priceless, no matter what its dollar value is.

Murco RS, I work for Whitlow Chevrolet in Midlothian! Wow. You bought your car 3 days before I turned 16.

Anywho, I know all of the owners names for my car. I can't say who they are because I got the names from various state title-searches. But the ORIGINAL owner's name is on the inside of the maintenance manual.

Zoe Albrecht, if you're out there..contact me!! The car had 48 miles on the clock and was purchased at Russ Darrow Pontiac In Cedarburg, Wisonsin. My car lived in WI, IN, FL, and now VA. Amazingly the only rust is of the surface variety. I'm lucky. It used to be an LB9 car. The motor that was in it was completely useless when I bought it.

If it could talk, I'm sure it would thank me for the facelift and confortable garage he sleeps in..........(and that he's not owned by a female anymore..haha)

Car: Z/28..39 Plymouth truck in progress
Engine: S/B
Transmission: Manual
I special ordered mine in late 84 happened to be driving past the dealership (Warren chevrolet in East Moline Il) in Apr 85 as the truck came in with it (took so long because GM was on strike) they had to push it off of the truck because it wouldn't start
but it was all good after that........started to mod it in Dec 85 still had 500 mi left on the warranty (warranty was only 12k back then for the youngins that may not realize that) there were next to none aftermarket parts at that point which is why the car is old school. Most of the parts that are in and on the engine were discontinued well over a decade ago lol but we have been alot of places and had a lot of fun with it over the years and many more to come

That is still the factory Enamel paint on it also

Car: 87 Z-28
Engine: A worn-out 305
Transmission: T-5, until it dies
Bought my first car, a red full-option 1984 Z-28 in December 83....but it was
cursed more than Christine, and not my fault on any of them....

I owned it for a total of 9 months, approximately 4 of those spent at SST
Performance (Alston chassis dealer) going under the knife. Basically looked
like the post above, but with an aluminum-headed 454. Same color-scheme
though....

It was hit 4 times during those 5 months on the road, and finally came to rest
when SST caught fire and burned to the ground, taking my car with it.

Plus, my foolishness caught up to me, when I lost my license a month later
for too many points from speeding/display of speed/drag racing....

Oh well, it was an education you can't get in school.....

I did a factory order on my '91 T/A 'vert in the spring of 1991, and it came in on July 11th '91. At the moment it has 15,900 original miles!

The first thing I did after taking my last final exam in college was to go and test drive a Z28 – an ’89 Z28 with a 5 speed – my dream car. I couldn’t afford a new one then, but I later purchased my '92 Z28 new with 168 miles on it from Bobby Murray Chevrolet in Raleigh, NC, from a sales man named Richard Cholerton in August of ‘92. I had just totaled my '84 Berlinetta that I had for 3 years. For 2 months I had searched for a used Z28 with a 350 and a 5 spd – at that time, I did not know that there was no such thing from the factory. Being unsuccessful in my search, I then began looking for a new Teal Z28 with a 5 speed. It was the last production year for the 3rd gen, so stock was low at all the dealers. Several dealers I called told me they had one on the lot, but upon arrival I was disappointed to find many a teal RS with an auto - man did that discourage me! No one had even a picture of the new 4th gen body style, but there was lots of hype of it’s appearance in ’93 - I thought that if I liked the 4th gens, I'd just wait & order one. I finally heard of a sales man who had a picture of the 4th gen - I rushed over to check it out – and, man was I sadly disappointed in its appearance. I thought, is that a Caprice?? Seeing my obvious grim state, the sales man asked me what I was looking for - I replied, “Don't even bother, I've been to all the dealerships within 100 miles of here & no one has or can find what I want”. Little did I know that I was at the "Camaro headquarter” dealership in NC - he asked again what I was looking for & I told him. He then disappeared for about 30 minutes & returned with a print out – “I found your car”, he replied. My heart stopped beating for what seemed like about one minute – I was in disbelief. I asked to see the printout, as I did not believe him – was this another sales man trying to pass off a teal RS to me, in hopes of my buying it on impulse?? He folded the name of the dealership under so I could not see it's location - I could not believe my own eyes as I read the specs “92 Z28, 305 5 spd, G92, option group 3, leather, Delco Bose" - could it be true??? I was in shock. I said, “Mm..maybe we can work a deal on this car". His reply, seeing my obvious flustered state was, "No dealing, you will pay sticker price for this car" ($21,800)..........My reply after a long pause was Uh……O......K.........under one condition - no one is to drive this car from it's present location - I want it flat bedded here, and no dealership name stickers (Bobby Murray was famous for placing their name all over their cars). As sales dudes always do, he said, "Let me go talk to my manager". After what seemed like an eternity, he returned & said, “OK, you have yourself a car”. Now all I needed was a loan…….For the previous 8 years, my baby was my '74 Ranchero - As many of you can surely relate to, I poured countless hours (and $) into it. When my ’92 Z arrived on August 31, 1992, I drove my Ranchero to the dealership as a trade in, and didn’t even look back at it after I set sight of that teal beauty parked there with everyone galking at it – it was a stunning sight. When I drove it off the lot, I could hardly believe I was driving my dream car at the age of 26, the growl of the G92 “sewer pipe” exhaust system, the smell of the new leather, and going through the gears of that T5 with that strange feeling “easy to press” gas pedal connected to a fuel injection system was an experience I will never forget. I thanked the Lord for turning that terrible accident that totaled my ’84 Berlinetta into such a blessing.

Oh, and my wife has owned her ’84 Berlinetta since it was new in April of ’84 – her grandmother bought it for her when she was a senior in high school – nice grandma, huh? The sales man tried to convince her that a Firebird was the same thing as the Berlinetta she wanted, since the Berlinetta was a bit over the budget she was given to buy a car, but she was not swayed, and the sales dude eventually came down on the price of the Berlinetta (about $13,000). Both cars are still our daily drivers – mine has the original long block in it with 190K miles on it, and I converted hers from a 2.8L V6 auto to a 305 TPI auto with Z28 suspension in 2000, and the car has 240,000 miles on it – the original interior (headliner has been replaced twice) is still in mint condition.…..

Here's my wife's '84 Berlinetta - hers is identical to the one that I totaled, except mine had T-tops & an LG4:

Drove 2nd gen. bandit TA for two years and fell in love with trans am's. Started looking for low mileage used TA in fall of 1989. No such luck all were either beat on or just base firebird. Decided that i would have to suck it up and break down for a new one. So in early 1990 i started to go to dealers in the area. No one had one on thier lot just firebirds. They also told me that they could order me one. But they showed me a picture of it and told me it would come in as a 1991 model. I thought that was the uglyest thing that Pontiac could have done. (still do) Long story short i found a dealer that located a red Trans Am a hundred miles away and i took delivery on march 1, 1990. 48 payments of 454.27 and she was all mine. Funny here it is over a decade since she's been paid off and i still remember the payment.

I bought my '82 Camaro from A.J. Foty Chevrolet in Houston on May 3, 1982. Been driving it ever since.

Don't have any pictures of what it looked like then. It looks and runs a lot different now.

There are a lot of parts still available from GM because of the total number of vehicles involved. By law auto manufactures must supply parts for at least 10 years. Since GM is still making the 4L60e transmissions that makes this part available.

Great story. I can only imagine when I experience driving off in my off-the-lot dream car (I'm still in college, so I have a while).

PS. Sorry for posting without having an original owned car.

I'm going to try and track down the original owner of my car. I believe he/she is from Michigan. I hope they have some originial photos of the car. They sold it like 2 years after it was bought. It would probably be quite the interesting conversation for them to hear from someone who owns that Z they bought 20 years ago.

Tim, awesome car! I usually get turned off by teal Camaros but you sir have one that looks WICKED! It's the stripes that look so awesome.

I bought my car new at Earhardt Chevy in Danbury CT. I was out of college and working at Sikorsky AC. I also had a 69 Convertable that was my daily driver at the time. I ordered my car before GM was actually taking orders so I'd call every week to see if it went through. Finally it did.

I wanted a stripper with all the performance options. I was bummed when they told me I couldn't get a 5 speed with the 5.7 or t-Tops. So it was an auto with no T-Tops. I ordered The level 1 options and had the side moulding as a single option. I ordered it without A/C which was only a $500 or so option, but added leather which I think was in the $900. The dealer thought I was nuts. As it turns out the standard AM radio is the rarest option, I forget the numbers without looking them up. I wanted the radio to have an antenna and not have to drill my own. I ordered the oil cooler and better gear ratio. I remember not ordering a HD battery but got one anyway. So no A/C, power windows or locks, and no cruise. About a month later I bought the corvette valve covers and put them on just to spice things up in the engine compartment. I also bought alum corvette heads but never put them on.

I have had to get the headliner redone, but that is the only other mod than the valve covers. Oh, I put K&N air filters also. My wife was the primary driver for most of the 80,000 miles that were put on the first few years when it was a daily driver. Since the early 90s it has only had a couple of thousand miles put on it.

I also kept everything from all the paperwork, to the original distributer with the bar code on it, and the battery.

The car has several door dings, and I just replaced the original alternator this year.

I have raced the car and a 14.6 was the best I got, back around 1988 or so. My son has taken it down the track last year and a 15.1 was the best he got. Last fall when it went back in the garage I notice the front end was loose so apparently a ball joint, Tierod, or idler arm is worn and needs replacing.

Well thats my story, here is a picture below. Oh it also made the camarosource.ca third gen calendar this year. Here is a picture below.
