Car: 82 Z28 Pace Car Edition restoration
Engine: 5.7l
Transmission: t56
Axle/Gears: 3.23 open drum (not 4 long)
Pace car

I obtained my 82 z28 pace edition when I was 15 years old. I went with one of my friends to a guys house who he was purchasing a boat from. When they were negotiating price and whatnot I was wondering around this guys shed and stumbled across this really cool but very dirty car in the way back. I knew I had to have it. So I went home and convinced my parents that I really needed this thing and they finally gave in. I bought it for $2600.00 dollars. Now 10 years later I have approx. $10,000.00 stuck into it and just finally started it up after not running for 8 years (of couse the engine is not stock). Full restore pace car in progress!!!!!! Thanks to all and I love this site!!!!!!!!

The person that had my iroc before me was the origanal owner, he parked it for about 15 years, than started restoring it. he had been having some problems and i kinda knew him and he knew me as the kid that was into fixing cars, so he took his life on afternoon, and his brother got the car in the will so he called me and said that he was me to have first shot at it cause he knows il do right. so i got it for next to nothing, and i am now finishing his work. the funny thing is that my wife wont go in the Garage cause she thinks its haunted.

Car: 92 Ttop Z28

Axle/Gears: Built 10 bolt-3.90s w/ PBR discs
the summer before my senior year, i bought a reasonably clean 87GTA with a 305TPI motor, Ttop car, and digital dash with a rod knock for 600 bucks. began to work on it and ended up selling it when i was hurting for money. this summer rolled around and got the Fbody itch again, so i bought a 83 and 86 firebird as a pair with a 327SBC/350TH for 800 bucks. sold the driving V6 bird for 500 and traded the other ratty hardtop bird for a very clean 92RS with no motor or trans, origional V6 car. got it from a drag racer who wanted to pro street a Fbody but couldnt have a Ttop car.....2,000 and 1 1/2 months worth of work later i have a mild 350/350TH anniversary Ttop camaro.

My aunt bought the car new in 1984. She drove it for a couple of years then she gave it to my grandmother. My grandmother drove it like 30 miles a week for like 5 years. Back and forth to the grocery store and weekly trips to the bowling alley, lol. Due to poor retirement planning my grandparents had to sell the car to pay taxes. Luckily i was done in college at this point and had the cash for the car i rememeber riding around in the back seat of as a child. So i bought the car, helped out my grandparents, and had a car that needed some TLC. Here i am 3 years later, about the strip the car down to a shell and transfer all the power options and TPI system from another thirdgen. I love this car and it will never leave the family! -Bob

Car: 1986 Camaro Z28
Engine: 400 chevy small block
Transmission: 5spd
Well basically i stole my car. I bought it from a drunk that wanted liquor money for 2500. I searched for 3 months for the right car, But after looking everywhere from craigslist to autotrader.com to magazines to newspapers to carsoup.com i couldn't find my i was looking for, and if i did it was too pricy. I lost all hope. A few cars that i did find interest in were already sold. this one guy i told him i was driving down with cash to look at his car and half way there after driving 3 hours he calls me and says he just sold it. can you believe that!! anyways... so i gave up. then my dad calls me a week later. says hes seen this camaro at a gas station talked to the guy and he was willing to sell it. i went and looked at it right away. I was more than i was looking for! It had a v8 5psd which was my main goal, but on top of that it had a rebuilt 400 in it with all edelbrock performance parts from maifolds to carb to even the chrome exhaust headers with a custom exhaust. Everything on the car was perfect except for some minor rust, a new windsheild, and the fiber glass cowl hood needed to be painted. So, now all i am working on now is a sound system with 2 kicker CVX 12" and a pioneer DEH-P780MP deck!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess you could say when you find ur dream car u will find it when its meant to be your car. Good luck and dont give up if you have yet to find it after looking everywhere for a long time.!!!!

Car: 90 IROC-Z
Engine: 305 TPI
In September 1989 I learned that the IROC-Z was being discontinued, so off to my local dealer I went to get one.
My wife and I had a 1977 Black TA 6.6 with Hurst t-tops at the time and had just gotten rid of a white 1987 5.7 IROC-Z because it lacked AC.
We wanted a 5.7 t-top, ac IROC-Z. They didn't have one like everyone else in the city so they searched the Ontario and Quebec dealers and all they could get was a 5.0 t-top ac car but it was in Timmins, Ontario, about 450 miles away.
The dealer offered to send a car jockey to drive it back for me, saying that sending a flatbed to pick it up was too expensive. We struck a deal, part of which, included a one way plane ticket to Timmins so I could take delivery of the car personally.
I arrived @ the airport on a wednesday night and the Timmins Chevy dealer manager met me and drove back to his lot. On the way, he told me that he had had his best mechanic go over the car to do a thorough pre-delivery inspection making sure everything was right, so I would have a great drive back to Ottawa.
The car was sitting in the "feature car spot" right up front. We did the paperwork, he handed me the keys and went through the "new car this is this blah blah".
I finally got rid of him, took a deep breath of "new car smell" and turned the key for the very first. The amazing dash came to life and after mavelling at the great instrumentation I put the autoexpress driver window down and blipped the throttle of couple of times. I watched the tach
move quickly in response and was greeted by a nice subtle grumble.
This was late September, a cool crystal clear northern Ontario night, and ahead of me was a 450 mile night drive in a my brand new IROC-Z.
HWYs 11 and 17 are both twisty turny two laners that go through some of the nicest hilly forested regions in Canada. I will never forget
the 8 hour drive back home exploring the limits of tires, suspension and exploiting apexs whenever possible.
I've had a lot of fun in the car over the past 16 years and 187, 000 km but the ride back from the dealer was one of the best times.
The car is still all original except for a few GM replacement parts and pair of K&Ns.

Car: '84 Trans Am
Engine: 350
Transmission: 700R4
We picked our '84T/A up as an exec. demo with approx. 2400 miles.late in '84 or early '85. It sat in the garage mostly for the first year as my wife thought it was too nice to drive.then she started using it as a daily driver untill it got to be aproblem having a T/A ,El Camino & a baby . The car wasn't worth much at the time,we offerered to sell it to family and friends, but no one wanted it. We parked it for many years thinking it would be a nice cruiser some day.Thought we were going to have to sell it to buy my son a ***** when he was 17.When he started thinking about getting a car he asked if he could have the T/A. thats when the treouble began.lol
I wanted to freshen up the L69 ,with 95000mi on it, but ended up having a 350 installed and the whole thing snowballed into a long term /ongoing project. He loves the car and we'll probably never get rid of it.

Car: 1990 RS
Engine: 305 tbi (currently)
Transmission: B/W 5spd
All through high school I had a '79 Z-28. I thought that car was the s***. It was my pride and joy. Two engines later I ran out of money, so I had to sell my high school toy. I sold the car on Ebay and me and the wife moved to California. A year later we moved back to Missouri (couldn't afford the Cali life style). I had just turned 23 and was having those Camaro pains again so i convinced the wife that we needed another Camaro. Could not find a decent 2nd gen to save my life. Then while Iwas talking to a friend of mine he mentioned that he knew where an '82 Z-28 had been hiding. Went and looked at it and the B***H that had was on crack!! She wanted $4000 for something that needed paint, tires, ENGINE, and interior! Needless to say i said NO F-ing WAY and almost gave up. The following week I stumbled upon a '90 RS V-8 5 spd car. I paid $600 bucks and got some cloth 4th gen seats to replace the ratted old ones, a clean title, and an LT-1 with complete wiring harness and comp out of a Roadmaster AND DROVE IT HOME!!! A set of tires (that match), a tune-up (had a small miss), oil change (Texas Tea), and a radiator (car got hot on the way home) later, she's been my daily driver for the past year.

NEVER again will i waist my time on another 2nd gen. On it's worst day this thing would out handle my '79 on it's best day. Now all I need is a good paint job and some carpet, and she'll be just fine.

so I looked around and found a t-topped TA. got an automatice so my g/f could drive it. since I got it, damn her, she's only driven it twice.

oh well. just finished putting in a 357, now I'm desperately trying to sell it so I can fix the motor in my GTO

well years ago i had an 85 Berlinetta and lover it. Nimble, quick and cool interior. Hated to get rid of it. Alas After about maybe 18 or so cars I just picked up my 84 T/A on ebay for the whopping sum of $860. drove 4hrs to get it and hauled it back. Not for the fixing part. Not a bad car but its solid which counts. Just has its few gremlins thats all

i got my trans am when i was 17. didnt really like the f-bodys at the time cause i was into the mustangs, my first car was a 71 mach when that was totaled after an idiot ran a red light and t-boned me. i found it at a transmission shop. apparently people where i live have no value for the f-body cause i picked it up for 1500 and its the only trans am with the 350 where i live. since if had it nothing has gone wrong except intake gaskets but other than that everything still works including the headlights lol.

i have an 85 berlinetta sport coupe, black with grey, its got 67,000 miles on it and the interior is in nice shape. me and my dad took some drywall to my uncles house on a car trailor. We unloaded the drywall and we got to talking about cars, my dad brought up the subject of me wanting a camaro, my uncle took me to the front of his house and gave the car to me. we were set because we already had the trailor from dropping off the drywall. the engine block was cracked so im in the process of getting a new motor for it now.

Well, I had this purple 94 sunbird, which was supposed to be my sister's car (even though I bought it and paid for the parts to fix it, and did the labor myself) so after driving it to school for one day, i took it to a local used car dealer for 800 dollars...conveniently I had found an 87 IROC for guess what, 800 bucks! I had a buddy pick me up and paid the man in cash for a car with a freshly rebuilt 305 TPI, shift kit in the trans, and new shocks/exhaust. The car had been sitting for about a year in his front yard before I removed it for him. Then I hit a deer a week later . o well, what better excuse to have to make some body mods and paint it?

Car: 1984 Firebird T/A

Transmission: TH400
Axle/Gears: Moser 9"
I was driving to the junkyard in my dads 4th gen WS6 to get a new window motor for our 96 Impala ss when i saw on the side of a shop the taillights of a 3rd gen T/A. I talked to the guy, he wasnt the one who built the car up it was his friends. He was just selling it because he had no use for it. He told me it was a 383 stroker, it had a cam(didnt know the specs.), had after market heads. The car was broken into a month before and the guys stole the air cleaner, carb, valve covers, stereo system and cracked the windshield with a big rock. He told me $500 so I thought about it for a week and came up with the money and had it towed to my house. What I know now is that it is a 383 stroker with Hooker shorty headers, Edelbrock performer rpm intake manifold, heads from a 1970 pontiac 400 76cc chambers, flowmaster 3.5in exhaust system with a super 40 muffler, 3.73 gears, TH-700r4 tranny with a shift kit. The body is in perfect condition no rust anywhere not even on the frame. The paint is starting to go now but what do you want for a car with 250k miles. I slapped on a Holley 650cfm DP and fired that baby up and shes sounds so mean. And that how I got my baby.

my cars

the firebird i got first was the 86 i had been looking for a while cause i always liked f-bodies and one night i went over to a freinds house and this car was sitting in the yard i asked what was wrong with it and he said timming chain i asked how much and he told me if i could have it out of his yard by tommarow it was mine so i picked it up changed the title and found out all it needed was a tune up and put back in time and my 85 firebird i got off another friend that wanted my talon so i traded him im in the process of putting new rod bearings in that one. so pretty much i ended up with two firebirds that only cost me the parts to fix them.

Car: 94 G20 hi-top conversion van
Engine: 350 TBI
Transmission: 4L60E
Axle/Gears: something vanny
I bought my 88 RS V6 camaro off ebay back when it was going to be my first me-chosen car, and a replacement for the hand-me-down oldsmobile 88 that I got in trade for a desktop computer from my brother. I got into an accident a month later, stupid me jerking around trying to be cool (that car was MINT and cost me $2650 to purchase!). But I wanted a V8, and I wanted t-tops, I HAD to have them so I bought a 91 RS for $1700 a few months later. About a year later both of them sold for $1400 and $1500 respectively because of insurance, speeding tickets, and the need for a van because I haul stuff all over the place. I wanted to stay with chevy for obvious reasons so I happened across a mint 86 5-speed Astro Van (very very very rare) which was my favorite vehicle ever, but long story too long to tell, about 4 cars later, without even looking for another car to buy or an f-body at all, I found a trans am not 4 blocks from my house, 1982, leather interior included (but not in the car) 69k original miles, 3-speed auto, and all in black primer for $1000 OBO, I took 2 days to look it over twice, drive it twice, and just went through it in my mind over and over, and finally told the guy the most I can afford to pay is $700, and he said he'd kick it around, well 3 days later he calls me back and says he'll let it go for that price (he's getting divorced, needs to sell everything basically ) and 2 days later I'm the proud new owner of an amazing car for a 300% better deal than I got on my other f-bodies, and without even trying! It drives beautifully, has a carb conversion done right now because it was originally crossfire injected, but I guess it sat for too long and everything wore out. It needs some brake work soon and some carb adjustment but man is it fast
I still have a van for my hauling purposes, a 1986 plymouth voyager 5-speed that I got for $150 from another guy living one more street over :P
Best of all the insurance is even cheaper than the voyager is!
I still owe my mom a couple thousand for all the car purchases over the years, mostly those camaros but one day I WILL pay her back!

I bought my 1989 GTA a little more than a month ago off of ebay. Luckily it was olny a few miles away so I could look at it before I bought it, otherwise, I'd never buy a car online. I'd been working and saving up for an IROC or GTA since 8th grade, now being a senior in high school, I finally had enough money buy my dream car. And I love it!

These are the only pictures I have on my computer right now:
eBay Motors: Pontiac : Trans Am (item 270027853154 end time Sep-20-06 15:13:42 PDT)

Bought for 7700, all in cash baby!

Car: 1989 Pontiac GTA

I am 16 and i got my car last year and i got while riding to work with my brother. We drove by their house and my brother yells sweet and i am say what and he is says look look and he pointed to a 1989 Pontiac Firebird GTA and it said need to sell make offer. So on the way back to home we dropped be the owners and the car was still for sale. So we asked if we could take it for a drive and they agreed. My brother drove since i was 15 and he did a spun the tires in first and second gear. So we had a big grin and i just had to have this car. So my brother talked to the sellers and he got them down to 1500 and that was all i had in my bank account. And the car is really nice with the 5.7 350 tpi and all the powered options wind. mir. etc. The body is in really good shape but the paint is wearing off along the corners of the rear bumpers. So we got a steal and the car is running great to this day.

I found my Arctic White '92 Z28 on autotrader. I looked at it everytime I was on the computer for a week straight. I finally decided to pony up some $$ for carfax just to see what the history was. It came back squeaky clean so I decided to drive cross state to look at it. It looked just as great in person as it did in the pictures, so I took it for a test drive. Went back, talked to the owner, and ended up coming back to pick it up the very next day. Having that car brings back a lot of memories. My very first car was a white '87 sport coupe. I really didn't know too much about Camaros when I got it. After a while saw an iroc drive by and noticed that it had ground effects, but mine didn't, so I saved up some money, bought the ground effects, and had them installed along with a new paint job. Man, I loved that car. I had it for about 6 years and then it started nickle and diming me to death, so I knew that I had to turn it loose. It about killed me to let it go, but I did. I always told myself that I'd get a '91-'92 Z28 since those were my two favorite years. Now I finally have one....

It is now going up for sale. because i just bought my 2nd one, it is a 85 IROC and i bought it here on the for sale board, locally. I will get it Sunday, it needs a new back glass due to the frozen hinge's when the owner open it a few days ago. I cant wait to get it.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?

Well, I used to have a red 89 Formula 350 that I got at a used car dealershit when I was 17.

My freshman year at college, I decided I wanted another 3rdgen, so I went on Carsonline.com or something like that and browsed the Firebird/Trans AM pages.

I found a pristine, low-mileage 85 T/A LE in a suburb not too far from my own. It turns out that the car was owned by the father of the kid selling it, the father had died a year or so earlier and the son barely ever drove it. They were the original owners and kept it in a garage, only drove it on nice days, and took good care of it. As soon as I got home from school for the summer, I drove down there and bought my car. It had 38K original miles on it, was rust-free, and looked perfect. $5,700 seems like a steal.

Still love it, needs paint (it started peeling about 2 years ago), but it gets good gas mileage (21 MPG for a 305 4bbl./23 MPG on premium) and smokes any and all imports.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?

I looked at the car I own now about 3 years ago. I got a tip that a very nice 88 IROC was for sale out in the country about 30 minutes from me. I checked into it, found the car at home, but not the owner. It was super clean, and the price was $7k. I never went back, but purchased a 72 Buick GS 455 about 2 months later. Fast forward to last month. I noticed what looked like the same IROC at a Mexican restaurant next to my work. I went over and put my business card on the car. He called me 3 hours later, and we chatted, but he really wasn't looking to sell, so I just agreed to keep in touch. Now, last week, on my way home from work, I saw the same car on a local junk lot with dealer plate. I swerved in, and knew the sales guy. I went for a drive in it, and agreed to buy it on the spot. I gave $4k for it, which is about average here for something like this car. I should have bought it for the $7k 3 years ago, because the last owner ragged it out. I just threw out the floor mats, 4 beer cans, an unopened Bud Light, and other misc junk. The car smells like an ashtray, and really needs a new interior due to the abuse it had thrown on it in the last few years. Apparently, I got the owner thinking that he needed to part company with the old Z after all, if people were asking him to buy it off the street. Incidentally, this car is taking the place of my 82 Z28 that I bought new in high school, but foolishly sold in 84. I have had plenty of cars since then, but have always missed my 82. I was amazed at how familiar the 88 was to me, even though 23 years have passed since I've driven a 3rd gen Z. Oldtimer.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?

In May of 1990, I was looking to replace my 86 Sport Coupe due to a number of issues. The big one being the car never handled right after being rear ended. Car & Driver and also ran a story about the looks of the new Camaro. Later that month, I went looking for a new 1990 IROC

Was at a dealer, looking for an IROC's but due to Chevy not renewing the name, there weren't any. This was before the internet, so I was stunned to learn the 1990 production was cut short and the 1991's were out in May.

The 1990 IROC's were all gone so it was a 1991 Z-28 with styling I didn't like or an RS. I didn't (and still don't) like the F-40 spoiler. I didn't like the fake hood louvers either.

So I ended up looking at a dark blue PEG1 (Prefered Equipment Group 1) RS. The car was a nice V-6 car but the price was too high for what it was. In short, I commented their asking price was even too high for the overloaded white RS sitting out front. They were like do you like the white RS? I'm like no, I don't like white cars. They were like drive it and see what you think. The car had 4 miles on it and took it for a test drive.

That was very bad mistake.

In general, at the time I didn't want a T-Top car because I have a 72 vette w/T-Tops. I'd never been much on stuff like power door locks, windows etc. The Arctic White RS, was a PEG-2 car with T-Tops, 16 inch rims just like the Z-28's. Best of all it didn't have that F40 spoiler. I discovered that power door locks, windows and cruise etc were pretty nice options. The car did a good job selling itself. I scoured the option code list and was surprised the car had F-41 suspension. Other than being a TBI car, the RS was my dream "Z-28". Sounds silly but I really hated the fake hood vents and F-40 spoilers the 1991 Z-28's have. I started liking the car despite it being the wrong color.

After a long eight hour haggle session, I paid $10,100 cash and traded in my 86 Sport Coupe, out the door. The 86 Camaro needed paint, tires, new set of struts, a new MAF, new fuel injectors, radiator, and had been wrecked. I got a $6,500 trade in for the car. According to Consumer Reports, at that time 4% over invoice was a good price for one of those cars at the time. I ended up 3.4% over invoice.

Very quickly, I got spoiled to the RS. In short, the 72 vette ended up sitting the garage most of the summer and the RS had over 12,000 miles on it in less than four months.

That was over 17 years ago, and I drove the car to work today with 284,5xx miles on the orginal engine and tranny no interal work on either. The has been totaled two times. Co-workers, make fun of the car but when I point out I've lost count of how many Honda's, Toyota's, & Fords, this car has buried on shear mileage, that usually gets them to chill out. One year, four Ford 4.6 Mod Motors bit the dust with in months of each other while under factory warranty. I had a lot of fun with that one...

Next spring when the car should have 300,000+ miles on it, the LS1 will go in and the 305 get retired to an engine stand for use as a mock up motor.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?

In June of 1994, I was in negotiations with a Pontiac dealer about a Black 91 GTA, with about 70k+ on it and it looked like it needed a little tlc and so it was a little ruff in some areas but no biggie. They wanted 14 for the car. So, in the middle of hagglin with them when my mother called and asked me to go by the Chevy dealer and look over a new 1994 Chevy S-10 Blazer she had just bought. So, I left and went down there, to go check it out and a salesman that I had done business with in the past met me out there and we were walkin down the lot to see it andas we did, I past by a green 91 GTA w/ (at that time63k+ miles on the car and it was in mint condition. I saw the sticker on the window and it said 10,500 well, I asked this salesman how much could he let me have it for and he said I will cut you a deal, 10,200. I said its a deal. Little did he know that they had it priced as a Trans Am and NOT a GTA, which at that time was about a 2500 plus. So, I was all over it.
What was really funny was after I got it and had just picked it up it started to rain when it ended a few days later we were in the middle of the Flood of 1994 in middle Ga. and to add the Pontiac dealer called me a few days later and asked about the GTA I told him I found one cheaper down the road, he said I will sell you this car for 12k, I said can you match a price, he said how much I said 10,200 he hung up the phone. I have had it every since and luv it just as much today as then.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?

Well I got mine as my first car when I was 16 because all I had was $800, it was just sitting rotting away at my aunts house and I bought it from her for $1000. I just gave her 500 and paid the rest later. I had to have something... wanted to sell it for quite a while...then I fell in love

Re: How did everyone here get their car?

I actually am in the process of owning a '89 Trans Am GTA (wanted one for a long time) with a rebuilt L98 engine, flowmasters, cam, new headliner, new carpet and headers for $3000 that I found on craigslist.org and all it needs is a new front bumper cover and oil pressure gauge...I live in Arizona and the car is located in Texas...I am giving the owner $500 payments thru pay pal as well as a $1200 down payment which was already paid to the owner in the beginning to hold it for me. Alot of my freinds criticize the fact that I just handed over the money but I made sure that the owner wasn't going to scam me before I did...for example I asked for some pics of the car which the date on the pics clearly show it was taken recently and a video of the car was sent to me as well (I posted it under my thread called "Is this a real GTA??? in the "body" section) if you wanna check it out! Any way the car should be paid off by mid to end july and a freind offered to use his truck with a trailer to haul it down here but in my opinion shipping will be much cheaper. All in all how I actually got to liking T/A's was a freind of mine from Mexico who wanted me to find one for him and drive it over there...I didnt really pay much attention to the car at the time but after a while of looking for one I thought "damn that is one bad a** looking car" and since that day I wanted one for myself...my freind actually changed his mind and now wants a excuse my fowl language '96 mustang'; I am counting the days until I have the beast in my possesion and its kind of exciting... kind of like when you know youre getting that long awaited present for christmas. So theres my kind of lame story hope it wasnt too long lol!

Later!

Re: How did everyone here get their car?

I was looking on craigslist for a new second-gen T/A, and I saw an ad for a free 85 T/A. I called the guy up, he said it was in pretty good shape, he bought it to fix it up but was moving for a job, and couldn't take it with him. It was maroon/red, 305 carbed, auto w/ t-tops. So, I picked up a u-haul car carrier and drove up there to get it. While I was there, he asked me if I wanted the 76 Cadillac he was giving away too. I took the T/A to my house, and went back for the Caddy. So, I started the day looking to spend $3k on a T/A, and ended the day with 2 free cars.

Now it's candy blue w/ black interior, with a pretty nice 350.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?

I was kind of in the market for a replacement for my slow datsun truck and someone on a local car forum happened to post up an ad for an 88 firebird. Headed out there, took a 5 minute look, then paid $800 for it. I don't plan on keeping it for more than maybe 2 years. By then I'll have more cash to buy one in better condition. This will be a fun project until then though.

This was all last week too.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?

Just like evey other high school kid, trades! I took my 1988 S-10, lowered it, shaved it and put a system in it. Traded it for 1985 T/A that was sitting in a field. Put WAY too much money in to it and learned a whole bunch about 3rd gens. Traded that for my 1991 Camaro that I have today which pales in comparison to the T/A in terms of money spent. Next trade...Corvette.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?

I badly wanted a 91 or 92 Camaro because of the ground effects they came with these years! :-)
But here in Switzerland you mostly find 80ties Irocs in bad shape or Convertibles wich I didnt want!
Well after searching for only 2 weeks I called my uncle (a BIG chevy fan) if he knows of such a car....well his response: You can buy mine, 91 L98 Z28!

hehe didnt know he had this car (he had it only for about 1 year) and almost freaked out...drove to his place...took a look at it, didnt even drive....and bought it! :-)

Re: How did everyone here get their car?

I had bought an 86 red iroc on ebay for 2,000 dollars. Got the car home and enjoyed it for a year, cleaned it up and replaced the foged over lights and gave it a nice wet sand and buff, tune up and so on. This was my first iroc, my buddies always owned them and i always wanted one. Well i have allot of autos and it seemed i had 1 to many so i decided to sell it less then a year later. I got a nice price for it over 6,000. Well literealy less then 4 days later i was on the hunt for another solid iroc. Its hard to find a solid camaro in new york state, and i live in buffalo. So anyway i was on my way to look at a 2002 trans am. Looked it over, total hack job! Kid wanted way to much for it. So when we where talking to him about his total junker of a trans am, he told me and my buddy about this camaro sitting in a guys yard thats been for sale, but noone can see it. He also said its total junk. So i was curious to see this car and drove down the street literaly 7 houses away from where this kid with the trans am lived. Low and behold a 1986 Back iroc z28! Exactly the same car, fully loaded and all the same as my red 86 iroc but this one was black. Me and my buddy almost crapped! We walk into the guys yard and look it over, Its a little dirty on the outside from being outside, but you could tell it hadent been out long. This car was near mint, better shape then my red one when i got it. So i see the for sale sign and i know this guy is going to want a hefty price for this car. After talking to the guy, the car has 104,000 miles but runs like a champ, he has owned it since 30,000 and so on. So the next day after i sleep on his asking price of 6500, I deside what the heck, its the best color for a camaro and i want it so i call him to take it for a ride. Well durring the ride the car is amazing! handels great. So i start talking about how nice the car is, and how i really want it, I pull over in this bowling alley parking lot and take out a sum totaly different from what he wants, i mean i low ball the crap out him, anyway i show him the cash and say this is the amount ill take the car today if you agree and he agrees! I had the car insured and registerd that day and before midnight it had a full tune up with all msd components and an oil change. I drove it almost till 3 am! Still have her and enjoy ever min i drive her.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?

I basically got my car for free. About 2 years ago I paid $500 for a 1990 toyota tercel beater to drive to work. I drive about 80 miles round trip everyday and the 35 mpg tercel was better than my 03 Chevy 2500 HD's 11 mpg. I found an add on Craigslist a few months later from a guy that had a 79 Trans Am with a fresh Olds 350R that he wanted to trade for a 4cyl car with A/C. Straight up traded the tercel for the T/A. I bought an old horse traler for $200, sprayed a fresh coat of paint on it and slapped some lights on it and sold it for $2500. I sank that $2500 in the T/A, but it was going to take a whole lot more than that to get it to the condition I wanted it. So, I posted the T/A on Craigslist since I had run out of $$$ to put in it. I traded the 79 T/A for my 91 Firebird + $700 cash. When I pulled out of his driveway I had all my initial out of pocket money back and a bird. The day I picked it up he even installed new headlight motors and a new driver window motor. I am the 3rd and last owner. The car had 144,620 miles on the clock and I got a big box of paperwork and receipts (window sticker, dealer invoice, original sale paperwork, etc... and every receipt for every bit of maintenance ever done on the car including tires, oil changes, everything. Now I use it as my daily driver. All it lacks to be perfect is fixing a few door dings and a new paint job (the clear is baked off and the once red hood is turning pink). The 23 mpg falls a little short of the tercel I started with, but it's alot cooler car to drive.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?

Like some of the early posts on this thread, mine (an LG4 83 Z28) was factory ordered and was a high school graduation gift to me from my maternal grandfather. I was the first in the family to go to university and "grandpa" wanted me to go in style and with some degree of "speed"... Grandpa was way ahead of his time and even in 1983 when the whole world was ga-ga for FWD he insisted that my "university" car be a rear wheel drive model... That limited my options at out Chevy/Olds dealers to about 4... Vette (to expensive) Monte (too "Old Man's car" ) A Hurst Olds... Too flashy or my Z28... (too drop dead gorgeous !!!)

Grandpa passed away a little over a year ago... I still have the car... one day it will belong to my daughter.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?

My new car I found in a local paper about a year ago. The ad just said 1988 Camaro, needs TLC $2900.

So I went there, noticed she needed a little more than just TLC, so I talked him down to $1800. And limped home with her 1 day later.

Now after being parked since last Nov, I'm finally dumping some much needed cash into her.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?

I was looking for something with more power than my neon, and my friends had always had Camaros and Firebirds in high school and we loved cruising around with the tops off and the power that they had, so I was kinda looking for one, but was mostly looking for something convertible/t-top and with power. Well, a friend had wrecked his a few years back and had bought the parts to fix it, but had never gotten around to it. I asked him about it, and he said I could have it for $300 including the parts to fix it, plus whatever other parts he had laying around(of which he had quite a few), but that he had already agreed to give the engine and tranny to another friend of ours and I would have to get his ok on it. Well, I asked him about the engine and tranny and he said I could have them for $300. That was back in May, and I am still working on it. I'm waiting on a welder to weld the front clip back on, and I need to get the windshield replaced and the car painted and its ready to go back on the road. Then I can start working on the 350 that I plan on dropping in it.

Re: How did everyone here get their car?

I purchased my first bird with the help of my grandmother. She was a 1972 I had the car for about 4yrs & the body just had enough. My boss at the car dealer I worked for was trying to find me a car. One night a customer traded in a 1982 TA . They parked the car in front of the office door with a ribbon & I had that car for 10yrs I sold it because of the EX I should have kept the car & got rid of him
I started looking for my 82 with no luck to purchase the car back. Then I came across thirdgen & fell in love again >There was my 1991 green GTA
Apparently she had been for sale for a while Just waiting for me .It has been fun trying to fix it back up again I dont know what this poor car has been thru but,its safe with me now. I plan on having this TA until I'm very old.
