Great welding video

Here is a great video I saw. I know a lot of guys don't approve of flux core. I use it a lot when outside especially in windy conditions. In the shop I use GMAW DCEP mig with 75/25 gas mix. GMAW makes the welds look a lot better, but as the video will show that doesn't necessarily translate to better.

Re: Great welding video

Got to admitt i thought it was going to be a silly video. Having been a welder over 25 years i had to watch it, lol. It reminded me of a guy i used to work with. He actually liked flux-core in certain situations. Interestingly he did a lot of structural steel jobs. I guess every process has it's application

Re: Great welding video

Very Interesting, I have bookmarked weld.com. I have had splatter issues in the past, did not know there was a splatter spray can available, though now I quite using flux core wire but I still have some wire left, I may use it again. I also did not know that there was different drive spools available.. I reinforced and modified a 16 ft trailer and took a lot of welding, I did have trouble with a spool of flux core wire that had flux voids in the wire which gave me fits, at the time I had a new Lincoln Mig machine and took it back to the dealer and we found out that flux core wire was my problem, put a new roll on the machine and have never had a problem since.

I have friends that are iron workers, building those skyscrapers in Boston. They weld the clips that hold the i-beams to the uprights often using .050" flux core mig welders. (although I guess you can't really call it a mig without gas lol).

I'll use it outside a lot, especially in wind. In the shop I prefer GMAW simply because it produces less fumes and splatter, and people get all hot and heavy over a row of dimes.

A lot of fab shops uses that splatter spray. There is an old saying 'a grinder and some paint makes a welder what he aint'. The splatter spray helps too lol.

I subscribe to this user, and saw that video. Very interesting. Shared it with a few folks at work, and on another site as well.

Yes, if you look at the cross section of the wire it looks hollow.

It is spatter
