Custom TBI CAI
Ok I recently made myself a custom CAI that looks really cool and does
It's job very well , which is to let the engine get the coldest air it can possibly get without restricting airflow ... Now this aint really the most cost effective thing u could do but like I said it looks really clean and does its job . So I'm going to tell u how to make it yourself and show you the final result ...
What u need : 1) carb hat 75-100$ (mine is 4" so I had to use a 4-3 reducer)
2) 5' of 3" aluminum Intake tubing ( 30$ @summit racing )
3) 1- 90* 3" Epdm rubber elbow (25$ @ summit racing)
4) coupling for carb hat to tubing connection ( 15$ @ summit )
5) air filter of your choice ( before ordering filter measure the
Distance between the top of the a-brace that hooks to the
Bottom of the driver side fender and the sheet metal under the
Charcoal canister , get a filter that will be as tight as possible
I had to force my brace back in but it helps hold the filter.
Ok now take out the ccp canister and relocate or dispose of ( ur choice ) also have to relocate or dispose of vacuum ball . Now cut a hole in sheet metal dead center where ccp canister was ( cut the hole so that the flange where the hose clamp on the filter goes will fit tightly in the hole so u can tighten hose clamp from the engine bay .. Next put ur carb hat on . Now put ur coupling on the carb hat and insert ur 5' piece of pipe into the hat as far in as it will go .. Now take ur 90* elbow and eyeball it with the hole u cut and mark ur tubing with a sharpie now go cut it ( grinder hacksaw sawzawl etc) ... Pipe cut ? Ok ur half way there ... Now clamp the reducer or coupling to the carb hat and insert the pipe u cut ( don't clamp it ! Now remember that A brace ? Take it off ... Now take the hose clamp off ur air filter and put filter I the hole from the bottom and put a brace back on to hold the filter in place ... Now put the 90* elbow on the pipe u cut ... Now measure from the inside of the filter to the inside lip of the elbow .. Cut it ... Assemble ... Done ...
Ok so here some results ... I have Robb's ebl flash so I can see my IAT values ... Before this setup on a 50* day I was getting IAT values of over 100* now on a 50* day I'm seeing temps of about 54* ... And a 3" CAI moves just as much air as my 3" exhaust so seems right to me ... Here's a couple pics ... Let me know what y'all think ! Sorry if my instructions suck ... Pics should tell all

Re: Custom TBI CAI
Did you consider drilling hole in the firewall so you could pick up air at the high pressure area of the windshield? I am consider doing that for my camaro.
