Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build
Yeah man....def would love the CF help.
Not sure if I'm gonna do this is carbon fiber or not....the ends and curves if the ends kinda intimate me out of the carbon fiber ideal...have no ideal how I'll get that to lay with out a crease. Plus what I do have left, still think is too heavy for really tight turns. Maybe not if vacuumed but I havent gotten any further then last updated on that.
Still would love to do it....just kinda gonna have to get some R&D in first.
Even if just small stuff....wicked cool and if I could....I overlay the whole car...but knowing me I freak out over the pattern not flowing continously threw the panels...lol
As for hood....dude it be so sick....I have to have two... lol...although I have been looking at the pro am hood and thinking on....changing it a bit too.... but we see.
Spent alday yesterday thinking bans making notes to make a plan of the car from here forward....tryn to think on the steps and stages to do what as I go...its hard, as bit seems to pull you different directions which seems yo kill the little time I'm getting now.
Thanks and if you can post pic or link of your new toy, like to see it

I was so interested in doing this and finding out what I needed I went on an internet search and found many examples on youtube.

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build
Yeah I am in love with this spoiler design.
I've finished all the build up and little filler really only have the edges to do, but I wanted to start the mounts before I went to far.
The foam is like a 3d templet at the moment but vim loving them so far.
I'll probably keep solid and paint the machine look
Either way, def be done tomorrow.

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build
I really like what you are doing on those mounts. How thick are they before glassing? And how thick do you think they will be once completed?
The reason I'm asking is I think they maybe a bit to thick looking once finished considering how thin the wing is now.

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build
They are 1 1/4 in pic but am going to aim for a 1" total once complete so I will have to shave them down (thinner) prior to fiberglassing. And for these I'll fiberglass right over the foam to create a very solid mount verse the spoiler.
Which is just about done, I'll prime tomorrow so I can see if I missed anything. Then will do mounts and bound the mounts to the bottom of the spoiler so I can bolt threw the hatch into the mounts themselves.
To make sure everything stays put, I'll drill & tap the bottom of mounts, use threaded rod to make a stud and literally Anchor with resin.
This will knock the hatch down to only needed two holes per Mount and kinda keep the spoiler a separate part.
Manly for paint, I could slide my hand under it but its still too tight to paint and clear correctly.

Instead of drilling and tapping for the threaded rod. How about drill a hole before glassing then glass inside the holes and screwing the threaded rod in before the fiberglass sets up. If you wax the threaded rod before you do this you will be able to remove it and your threads in the fiberglass will be stronger as it will have squeezed out the excess resin and made perfect threads. Then once its all done you could use an epoxy resin to secure the rod in if you don't want the rod to be removable. Just a thought.

Anyway just let the ideas flow and you will come up with something awesome for the front valence. I'd lean to something similar to the '91-'92 Camaros.

Well I didn't want to crack open a new can of sealer and mix it all up just for the spoiler, so I rattled it in hopes to locate any little pings and such prior to sealing. But with it in one color I think its easier to see the actually design.
I really like it, def a keeper and if anything, will keep detachable for the next TA...hehe

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build
Good news,
Spoiler and mount are done, just gotta prime and put together.
Bad news, is I tryed to pull hood off today by myself as I have gotten away with it a couple times during this build but finally dropped it. Hood took hit fine except it rolled over on the glass and scratched it pretty good.
This is now a seriously bad set back....not sure if I can wet sand cut and buff out and not really sure if it'll work....
Really would hate to have to cut the glass out....make new piece and reinstall all over again....
Either way to made to stay in garage or even look at it....I simply went inside after I picked it up.
Rrrrr....guess we see tomorrow.

I believe he's talking about the plexiglass that he installed on his custom hood not his windshield. Bit if the scratch isn't to deep he can sand and polish it out.

Well its done.
And outside, should get some good daytime pics. But spoiler is mounted and done.
Car is done.
Just gas door and mirrors but neither that stop the PAINT
So I will spend a few days washing and vleaning and prepping to start.
Thinking Dec1st, and maybe some YouTube videos of actually airbrushing it.
Either way, I am very happy and glad...almost a year to get this completed....
Phew...

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build
Took a few pics before I left for the day as I doubt I'll get home before dark, the next few days.
Still a few lil things to do, but mainly alignment and gaps.
For example. But I am really happy today to see it get to this point. Can't wait to get it back to one color. Always makes such a big difference.
But we see.
I did start the lips and the rear diffuser, was thinking of just doing a different thread for those though. Although I may or may not install before paint.
I also....
Did Start the C7 style hood to...but haven't had time to post either.
Either way, these are just extra things that may not Make the final cut.

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build
The mirrors are off of a Pontiac Grand Prix...I was at a swap meet last summer. .someone there was selling them for $20. I pointed out the driver side mirror was broke, not the glass the housing was...then he said $5 ?? So I bought them for mock up and to get an idea of what it will look like...I have only seen one other car with 4th gen mirrors on it, but they didn't fill in there old mirror holes like I did...now that my mirror holes are filled I am committed to this mod...

Dude to be honest. I really like the styling of the mirror and think this is a creative and unique mod.
I can't help but look at my car, look at your mirrors, look at my car and smile over your mirrors.
That groove/double neck....area effect look....how ever to verb it fits well with the sideakirts and hood.
I'll have to put bigkeg on mirrors if I do it though....lol

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build
Billet...would be killer and an awesome suggestion.
Think that may have to be something I look into.
Four, thought it...mocked it up, didn't like the look although I completely understand the reason.
Kinda to be see. As far as will it hold actually being driven. I did double core and have 5 layers of .5oz chop and one of cloth.
I can pick up one end at tip and holds with no flex like a snowboard, but with mounted and my body weight I can get the ends to flex some....small but some. Not sure if I'll see any stress later but is a possibility and may have to take the function of four over form of two

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build
So I been thinking and thinking, tinkering and tinkering on TPI whom has growj richer then richy rich himself and I am seriously considering a midway project....while painting, pullingbthis TPI and converting to Carb, setting up gages and switches to further the theme. Only real custom feature I could do, motor wize is fabricating a air intake to create a cool look....
Any thoughts ?

If your converting the engine to a carb you might as well delete the computer while your at it. Things would be 100% simpler when working on the engine as long as there are no emission laws where you live.

Amazing body work imo, if it was only as easy as you made it look.
With all the body work done, why not go down the ls1 swap route, keep emissions, made good power, reliable etc... Still a 350 chev, just a modern version.

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build
Yeah, I was thinking that with a fabricated intake cover (as I'll call it) you can change the look of the motor. Now I have done sheet metal and aluminum ones in past but I was looking at some of the NRE (Nelson Racing Motors) and although it wouldn't be just like....I like the tunneling forward look. So it I made one to do the same I could put filter either low (crank level) or keep high and maybe likevthe ram airs. But either way....it wouldn't really look like SBC....it'll be kinda alienish...lol
