small high cfm fans in air snorkel hoses?
ok so just trying to think of things to do for fun on the car while its not drivable yet..i had this idea of helping the air flow on the dual snorkels by fabbing a small high cfm fan somewhere in the plastic hose..i dont have any specs on the amount of cfms get pushed thru at varying speeds,most importantly high speeds/WOT, and would probably want a variable fan control switch or at least an on/off switch to control when to run them..but im assuming i couldnt find one that small that would push enough air to be of any value. im not thinking this is gonna do anything special, but i just felt like experimenting with ideas. feel free to put me in my place haha.

Your idea is basically an electric blower & no way your gonna exceed the stock normally aspirated cfm to see any kind of boost.

they sell these for brake cooling. doubt theyd do anything for the motor but hey if you can get them cheap enough then try them out.

Hot Rod hooked up two gasoline leaf blowers to the intake of an 85 vette. It made some boost at idle when the leaf blowers were at full power, but once past idle speeds they made no appreciable power at all.
Spend your money on a headers, or a CAI, or anything thats proven to make power.

the article doesnt seem to say that..says it made more power all the way to redline..albeit a peak of 24hp@4587 and about 30 ft/lbs tq @3234..i mean thats not out of this world by any means.. but pretty legit for leaf blowers. i also have an lg4, i do have lt headers, the afore mentioned dual snorkel, electric fan yet to be put in, and a few other things but like i said i was just toying with the idea for fun..i wonder what the cfm # is on those fans..i suppose i could look it up. dont worry im almost positive i wont waste the 12 dollars i got on this.

ok the 3" version of those brake blowers only does 158 cfm and the 4" 240 thats part#751 which is is about half the cfm of one of those leaf blowers. dang..they looked so much more beasty too..i saw computer fans online pushing 220-250 cfm (at least advertised so). its probably good for the size but unless i could get at least as much as those blowers it doesnt really seem worth it even for a time killer

these look very simular to power vents for inboard outboard boats.they suck the gas fumes from the engine compartment.

I've always wondered what running a compressed air nozzle into the intake path would do, not to provide boost just to add some air. I thought about trying it on the truck setup to where it would run air until the turbo lit then shut off (have tapped ports in my intake) just to clear my smoke up. Figure it'd be more work than its really worth where diesels are so nitrous friendly but maybe on a gas engine?

compressed air eh? like as in similar to a nos set up but just air? maybe not as in depth obviously a set up but a tank and hoses etc..seems like it wouldnt last very long, as if you'd have to refill the tank every time you go somewhere

Putting a fan in your intake tract would actually reduce how much air you could get...All the electric turbo/superchargers you see are just a bunch of hot air

I just had the crazy idea (though would never think twice of doing) but how bout the mini jet engines people mount on rc planes and random stuff? You'd definetly have to have an intercooler, only reason i can think of why i wouldnt wana do it besides it would probly be more than a supercharger and that it would be blowing its exhaust into your motor

Also just did some research, with the equation i found a 305 cubic inch motor (my 305 for example) it should suck about 61 cfm @ 700rpm, 220 cfm @ 2500 rpm, and 353 cfm @ 4000 rpm. I then found a 400 cfm 6" fan on amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002JQ...797098-5121227 So i dont see why this wouldnt be possible

maybe get some fans and not turn them on? at high speed might speed up the air vs being limited speed by a motor.... just my 2 cents

90 bucks (you'd want two) though..damn..it would only be worth it if im not spending money that could go towards real stuff, though the fabbing part is still tempting, really im just looking for something i can make haha

or if you had a larger fan, something flat like a radiator fan that you could mount, seal and channel directly into the motor air intake...those are much higher cfm but all that present problems with space etc too. idk...

fans like the one's pictured and the 6" you found on amazon can move a bunch of air if there is no pressure/vacuum they are fighting such as when they are sitting on a table in a room. As soon as you put ducting around a blade type fan that imposes a pressure gradient they lose effectiveness (cfm if you want to call it that) very quickly. You need a turbine style air moving device to really be effective in this situation to overcome the pressure difference and move enough air (hint - turbo/centri-supercharger) and the power needed to spin one to a high enough RPM to be effective is really not available in an automotive electrical system. You would be best served to build a super high flow cold air intake and spend you money elsewhere to inprove airflow in the engine (exhaust, throttle body, heads, cam, intake...)
