4th gen to 3rd gen swaping questions!!!
i believe that this would be the right area to post these questions since there not motor or trans related.. if not any mod that wants to relocate this please feel free to..
im hopefully pickin up a 99 ss parts car.. its a complete car that was totaled out from an accident.. anyway besides the motor, transmission, rear end, gas tank, dash, seats, and door panels what else can be swaped from a 4th gen into my 3rd gen vert?
also i plan on using the stock harness from the parts car since im going to be swapping the complete motor, trans, dash and all.. so im hoping to plug and play except for the head and tail lights which i already figured i would have to wire in to the new dash..what else do i need to keep from my 91 harness??? this is the most important question cuz i already have the harness out and ready to sell!!
these are what i have in mind that i would like to swap
front brake assembly? since im going with a tubular kmember and control arms.. fuel lines? brake lines? brake booster? master cyl? steering setup? driveshaft? anything else????
i know about the dash swaps and door panels and all that but im talking about unbolting them from the parts car and bolting them in on the vert.. mainly the brake up grades and fuel lines.. im trying to use as much as i can from the parts car so i dont have to buy more stuff.. leaveing for the military in january and really want my baby atleast being able to move under her own power since when i get back i will only have a few weeks to pack up and go to my new post and wont have time to finish car untill i get settled where ever that may be..

Cat back exhaust, outside door handles, outer window sweeps, radiator, coolant tank, window washer fluid tank, radiator shroud with dual fans if you use 4th gen rad, rear sway bar,
From a lt1 trans am - the spoiler, sideview mirrors, and door side moldings.

That's good to know. I knew about the radiator and stuff just forgot to list it. But I was looking more towards suspension components and other items that are used to make the car run and drive.

Leaning more towards the lsx series motors.. inless ur talking about an lsx 454. I'm hoping that with the tubular kmember I will have enough room to run the long tube headers that are comming with the ls1 parts car

Re: 4th gen to 3rd gen swaping questions!!!
Everything in the rear suspension will bolt on your car. The front calipers, pads, and rotors are the only front end parts that will fit from the brakes or suspension. I believe the master cylinder will fit, but not 100% sure of that.
Pretty much all of the interior can be made to fit. The seats are the only real "bolt-in" parts though. Everything else like the dash, door panels, center console, etc needs at least a little bit of work to make it fit.

Really? i haven't even noticed that
booster and masters fit, though i heard with the ls1 booster the rods are longer or shorter or some damn thing. also the 4 studs that you use to bolt to the firewall are a smaller diameter but its not really to much of a problem as far as the masters the ls1 works with stock lines the lt1 you have to use adapters. im running a LT1 booster with a LS1 master with the stock 3rdgen lines and prob valve.
here is some compares i took.
more pics of them and the boosters found here at post #227

Re: 4th gen to 3rd gen swaping questions!!!
If you are swapping the dash, you can use every inch of wire from the ls1 car. It would add a tiny bit of extra work, but it would save from having to make/buy a conversion harness. That's what I did on my car...from headlights to tail lights, my car has 4th gen ls1 wiring.

Re: 4th gen to 3rd gen swaping questions!!!
You can definitely do a full dash swap if you like the new look. If you want you can also use all your old dash and gauges. I believe the 1991 was all electric? Should just be a matter of hooking up the wiring. I bet you could even make your fuel gauge work with the 4th gen tank (I did on my firebird). If you go that route, search for my fuel gauge thread and see if you can apply the modification to your camaro gauge. (I am going to find one locally and see if I can dream something up eventually)

Re: 4th gen to 3rd gen swaping questions!!!
I am trying to install a LT1 master on my 82 TA. Can anyone tell me what size fittings I need to install the lines from the valve to make the lines work. I went to a few shops around here but they didn't have anything in stock.
