Home Made Ramps
Hey guys was thinking about making a set of these, I really like the design of the one on the bottom of this page
http://www.corvettec3.ca/ramps.htm
he uses 2 2x6's instead of 1 2x12 to save on money, but it doesn't say anywhere what he uses to hold the 6's together securely. to me it looks like essentially the ply wood or osb wood is holding it together. Would you use 2x12's for the supports running vertically and use the 2x6's for the platform?
thanks
Mitch

I'd use 2x12's for the supports. The 2x6's for the platform would be fine with some 3/8" plywood on top. The OSB is fine for the sides as it's not really load supporting. Since the car's wheelbase would put it in the same location every time, I'd add more support or even metal support under where the wheels would stop.
The one at the bottom with the built in lights and storage space is a good design.

Wow! That is definitley different. The first few pics looked kinda scary but seeing the inside it seems to be pretty well built. Seems like a cheaper alternative to a four post lift.
