Any blueprints available for a tube frame? (needed for 383 TT)

HI guys, I'll be getting Nelson racing engines to build a TT 383 for me, they said its best to get a full tube frame installed first before the engine is ready to be installed, so is there any blueprints that I can get or buy in regards to a given tube frame that can take over 1000hp? thanks guys, ANY links or help of any sort would be VERY highly appreciated.

Although there are lots of ideas on how to build a tube chassis, everyone has to follow the guidlines set out by the SFI foundation. NHRA/IHRA requires a tube chassis to be built to these specs.

Depending on the speed and weight of the car, you're going to want 25.1E, 25.2 or 25.4. Each chassis spec sheet is only $35 plus shipping.

My car is still a factory style chassis. I have a tubular front k-member and a-arms. Rear has a 9" with ladder bars. I have a 12 point spec'd Jegs cage but don't run the forward bars through the firewall for the extra 2 points.

Race weight, car, driver, fuel etc, sitting on the starting line is 3085 pounds which is extremely gutted. Trying to get down to 2800 pounds or less for me would mean a tube chassis car. There's very little left that I can remove or lighten. Some pics and all the car info is on my web site.

Sure is neat to see a fellow Calgarian member on this site. So which set-up did you use? I have a 1990 GTA that I'd like to modify. Is there any "geometry" that is included in the blueprints?

You have the coolest avatar i've seen in a while. It took me a while to catch on, "flames", then finally noticed you're in cowtown

do you need a full tube chassis for a 1000HP motor, or is that just recommended? Stephen has almost that kind of HP (800HP or so?) and he's running a "normal" car.... And Blownbird has even more HP, and I *think* he doesn't have a tube chassis.

be sure to check out the "canada" forum, and make a brief post in the "Any calgary members" thread. That way if there is some kind of event, and it's posted in that thread, you'll be notified.

I think carguy_28 was doing a cruise today too... crap, I forgot about that.

Well, I just dont want the frame contorting. Apparenty there is a guy in Calgary with a 650hp Regal who's doors dont even close properly; because the frame is so twisted from the torque. I just dont want that hassle. If the car can do 1500hp or less without any MAJOR mods then all the better... but thats a pretty big task. I assume that absolutely isn't possible so would there be an engineering firm that could design the necessary mods needed?
This is definately overkill, and hopefully not needed

There's no rule saying when you need a tube chassis.

There's some wrinkling in my floor by the driveshaft tunnel but that was back when I was still running a torque arm system.

I have no problems with my doors but then they have no door seals either. My tee tops never have a problem. The exterior body skin has no cracks or wrinkles.

If you have severe twisting problems then your chassis isn't set up properly. The first thing you do is get a set of SFC welded in. Depending on your speed, a 6 point roll bar should be used. Even a 13 second car will notice a difference with a roll bar although it adds about 70 pounds to the car. Anything below 10.0 has to have a full cage. I'm to the point where I require a full cage.

There are 8 second cars that don't use a tube chassis. The benifit of having a tube chassis is the weight. Heavy vehicles are hard on parts. The lighter the vehicle, the faster you can go and you don't need as much heavy duty parts.

A tube chassis third gen with a mild street engine should be about to run 10's with no problem.

Just looked at that Ebay Firebird. Mid 4's is the 1/8 mile time. That's a low 7 second car but doesn't include an engine or tranny.

You have to realize that a tube chassis car means the car only looks stock on the outside. Body panels are hung off the chassis for appearance and give no structural strength.

The REAL question is does anybody make a tube chassis? As in pre-made? for our applications...

Lots of tube chassis kits available

Chassis Engineering - Drag Racing Chassis, Ladder Bars & Suspensions
The Official S & W Race Cars Web Site v2.0
ed Quay Race Cars
www.competitionengineering.com

Probably a bunch of others.

You can buy a basic unwelded, precut, tube chassis kit for between $1000 and $1200. All that includes is all the prebent tubing. Lots of assembly is required since nothing from an original car is designed to fit.
