It might be sooner than you think, silverstars don't last very long.

As in 3 months? 6 months? 9 months?

Maybe I should research the lazy eye mod more. Although, all I can find doing TGO and web searches is that it exists, but nothing more, like anybody who has actually done it, and how it works.

Damn unicorns...

i dont know...i've heard "under a year." But really, you're supposed to change your headlight bulbs once a year anyway. Its what the headlight companies recommend, of course. It probably depends on how often you use them. To me, its like someone telling me to change my battery once a year.

Considering this is a "unicorn" u should probably just start modding them now and then you'll have them finished by the time your lightsburn out, lol.

Just my thoughts... I love pop up headlights. My dad got an 82 when they first came out, and I can remember making him put them up and down because I thought they were so neat. I cant imagine liking the lines of any other car better than my 87 TA with the lights closed..

That being said, Ill agree that when they are up, they might give the "bright eyed look, frog eyes, etc..". But how often do you drive around in the day light with your lights up??? If I want to be seen, its parking lights and fogs for me. My fogs are bright enough to use by themselves at night. When its dark out...all you see is the light from the bulb. Cant really see the pop up part. Low light situations can make a crappy paint job look awsome...and it can make the pop up look better too. Now for those of you without fog lights, formys, and base birds...if you want to be more visible in the daytime I guess you are stuck.

The only mod so far that I like is the lazy eye mod on dead birds car. I cant remember if he has high beams with that set up...but its the cleanest set up so far. redraifs idea is good too. However she got rid of one of my favorite things about a firebird...but its still a good mod.

I just dont see why something that is usually only used in the dark can be considered to be an eyesore..??

I'm with the other 'bird purists...keep the lights stock.

Best thing, if you don't like the lights, buy a Camaro
Wrong... C4 vette lights are 100% different. They don't have the bulbous plastic bezels around them which are apparently unneeded. It isn't overspray or dirt that makes them look bad, it's the 4 lbs. of unneeded plastic.

Too late! What bulbs are in your fogs then ghettocruiser? I do that for short trips, like a mile away from home, and I'm almost there, I don't bother with my pop ups.

Those have the fiberglass completely around them painted the body color, and insted of flipping up, they spin around wooooooo......

I guess you could say that the C4 lights look just as bad as the 'bird lights then.

But then again, I like both. And the 4th gen dual lights on the '98+ cars even better.

And I too have the diamond cut lights

This has nothing to do with them spinning around. If Pontiac would have made the bezel smaller, around the same size as the headlight, and make the flip only large enough to fit the headlight, it would have looked 100X better. Instead, they add a bunch of plastic around it, to make the cover jet almost vertically up in the air from the hood, and the headlight surround twice as large as the light.

i knew there was going to be atleast one, lol. If you're going to install new light assemblies go with a 55 watt 12 volt bulb, they're very bright and much safer than your old hazed over lights.

also, to get back to MY topic i still have the cardboard version of my headlights but i dont know what to make a negative mold out of. I dont want to make it out of fiberglass because of how hard it is to release fiberglass from steel and also im afraid that the resin will make the cardboard wet and lose its shape.

I guess I'm goin to try to start fabbong on a set of shorter lights, like 2" x 6" or so. So when my Sylvania Silver Stars go out, I'll be ready.

My fog lights aren't really the 87 originals. They've been replaced, so the lenses aren't fogged, and the housing look perfect, no scratches etc.

i like the firebirds when the lights are down i like them better then the camaros, but when they gotta be up its not that great looking, i agree with the half up looking ones that doesnt look half bad but you can never completely hide your head lights

In the future, I am considering juswt making new frames and not have to worry about desigining around the oem parts. But, that won't be for awhile.

Is a block of wood all that is needed for all years(82-92)? I thought I read somewhere that this would only work for the 87-92's...

In all honesty, I cannot say for the 82-86 years as finding motors/frames for them around here is nil.
Aside from knowing billsfirebird (member) has them, I've yet to phsycially see one in a local junkyard to date.
The 'first design' headlamp motors, from what I can tell by looking at a few crappy diagrams I have, they seem to have the limiters in the motor housing rather than being limited by overload (the headlamp module found in 87+ cars)
Without ever having had one orbeing able to dissect one, the above is just speculation.

I'll say again though, I wouldn't use a block of wood for a astop/limiter but.. that's just me.

Too bad. The 82-86 headlight motors are easily found in all the Pick-A-Part yards out here in SoCal.

This is the 1st time I've ever heard of people not liking the pop up headlights on Firebirds. Personally I never liked that people would leave wrenches and screwdrivers on the Camaro headlight openings.

What's not to like about Firebird popups? They give the car a strong look while up and a smooth look while down.

I don't see the point in halo lights for cars with pop up headlights. You can't see the halos while the headlights are on, and the headlights are down most of the time.

well maybe so.. but thats one of the few ways to make your ride stand out without losing the stock look. What I would really like though, is to find a way to put 4 lights on it, 2 on each side ( two bulbs in one housing )
