I was wondering if anyone else has done this. It was really easy. I didn't want the MSD box in the engine bay because it clutters it up.

I also mounted the coil just above the heater box.

That looks real sharp. What did you use for the rails that it bolts up to?

Those oil bath coils should be mounted as close to vertical as possible, sideways mounting causes premature failure...

This coil is a MSD Blaster High Vibration Coil. It is epoxy filled. The paper it came with said that it can be mounted in any position.

Thanks! Like JohnZ28 mentioned, getting to the rpm pills will take a few extra seconds though. But will be great having the MSD box hidden!

Unless you're changing engines, pick the pill for your rev-limit and leave it!

I had actually mounted mine behind the pass headlights behind the batt. I still have an inch or so of space between the batt and the msd.

The first pic on my girlfriend's 1992 Formy. We made a bracket that mounts to the top fan bolt and had to drill a small hole for the upper strap.
The second pic is my buddy's 1989 Formy. Same mount made out of aluminum diamond plate.

thats EXACTLY how mine is, including the 2 step......only now theres also an msd 8977 underneath it hehe.......but i did it because it was convenient and easier to do than in the engine compartment, plus it stays away from the heat and moisture

I mounted mine underneath the dash on the pass side where the fan box used to be. Then just ran a few wires through the firewall to the coil. I didnt like the look of that big ole red box under my hood, everything's pretty much black so it would have stuck out like a sore thumb. But, to each his own...

I like that idea of useing the original computer bracket for the MSD. Puts it inside the car out of sight for any snoopy people. Would be great for my 83 as the computer is not running anything anymore.

I just mounted mine to the pass.side kick panel.Just hate the noise it makes a soft tick-but a towel covers that noise up.Also left some room behind it for the 2-STEP when it comes in from summit!

the bracket for the ECU is on the passenger side interior. if you remove that bottom kick panel ( the one covering the heaterbox and look up it is near the door (about 6" away from it) attached there by two screws (one you take out when you remove the panel). If memory servers that is where all of them are in third gen camaros. At least that is where it is in my '83 camaro and both of my '84 camaros

Made a bracket that attaches to the driverside fender well. Heat, believe it or not, is not an issue in this spot. This box is about 6-7 years old now. This pic mostly shows the AFPR, but you get the idea.

I just did a rough install on my 91 tpi if your looking for ideas. If you have the AC delete blower box you can use those existing mounting holes for the box. U shaped 1 inch material, I used 2 90° 1 inch pieces with a bolt holding them together and another aluminum sheet metal that I had laying around cut 2 identical pieces rivet together for some strength.

Re: MSD install (pics)

@IROCZman15 that is a nice engine bay I really like the cover plate completely removing hvac box and heater core hoses thought about doing the same thing. What stopped me was having it look so bare on the passenger side firewall and having the booster and all of that on the driver side but when im all done everything on the firewall will be close to the same black the engine bay is painted with hoping it will look neat. But with a bright color like red it looks really good

NOTE!! I did not revive this thread either just had something to add when I seen it pop up. Also what is so bad about reviving an old thread new ideas and techniques come and I feel its better to add to exisisting threads than create so many threads on same topics
