Ram Air 2 Airbox

Just wondering if anyone has measurements for the air box that you buy for a ram air hood? I'm wanting to make one instead.

that is awesome thanks alot! I'm debating on 1/4 inch lexan or 24 gauge steel to make the box out of. What filter is that? I might just make mine accept the 2 stock filter types.

I dont know what type of filter it is? It is a k&n so i wasnt too worried about replacing it. It came with the box so im not sure. If you use lexan how can you seal the sides? Just curious. Would you paint the lexan? Does yours need a maf sensor?

yeah my car has maf. as far as sealing the lexan i was going to attempt to use angle brackets to hold it together at a close tolerance and seal it with high temp rtv. as far as painting I'd probably spray the inside black to make it less noticeable until i find out that its not going to melt. then i'd spray the rest of it black after making sure it doesn't melt with underhood temps. I'm thinking i can make a top piece to use my stock size K&N's instead of trying to find a long one like that.

and if lexan won't work I'm gonna make one using sheet metal that i have laying around. But I'd rather not trust my welding abilities

i seriously doubt lexan will melt. Thats some awesome material. If i had a couple sheets i would make some really sweet things. Are you talking about actual aircraft style lexan or just the stuff from the hardware store. I think that stuff may melt. But not the real deal lexan. I only payed 150 bucks for my air box it may be worth it just to buy one. It may save time and money in the long run. If youre going to fabricate something dont copy the original. Change it somehow and make it better. I dont trust my sheet metal skills either but in time they'll get better. Put a pic up once you finish if you decide to go at it.

lol i need a **** carpet rake lol my room has **** carpet and its awesome to sleep on. I started the box last night. I've got 1/4 lexan and it's plenty sturdy enough hard to cut though. I'm gonna change the design but i needed something to base off of so that i had an idea on how much clearance i have as i can't watch the hood shut and see how much room i have. would be a neat trick though. I'm gonna see how this stuff goes. and as a last resort i'll be using sheet metal. I'll post pics when i get one of them finished.

Re: Ram Air 2 Airbox

Talk about bringing a post back from the dead. I am also in the process of fabricating my own ram air box. Does anyone know what's the part number on that K&N filter? Thanks
