It’s my opinion that you will not see many examples of this because of the modifications required to achieve it. A live axle rear suspension does not lend itself to central exhaust due to the exhausts route over the axle, into the muffler(s), and around the rear trunk area making outboard mounting of the tailpipes the logical choice. An independent rear suspension and modifications to the trunk allowed me to accomplish this on my heavily modified Camaro, much like the Corvette that you mentioned.

Not mine, as mentioned. I just saved the photos for reference. I have no idea what muffler was used, but I don't "think" the muffler matters too much. It's all in the design of the tailpipes...you can see that in the last photo....a fairly std. F-body muffler. I "think" a good exhaust shop could make this style of setup work with any muffler. But you'll need those cast aluminum tips for sure.
