Obd1. Only needed o2 readings for feedback on closed loop fueling. Sounds counterproductive because if the passenger side bank had a problem, the o2 sensor wouldn't see that but that's just how it was.

Yup, just the one.
The ECM in these cars barely has enough nads to keep up with the output of one; trying to monitor 2 at the same time would probably cause it to melt down. After all, remember back to what you watched TikTok on back in 1983 or so, when that ECM was being developed... I'm guessing you might have thought at the time that the video was a little bit jerky.
