another third gen with true dual 2.5 "exhaust
Hi everyone
I remind you again that I am Spanish and I use the google translator, forgive me if there is something that is not well understood.
The other day I made a post about the installation of the headers, because I also took the opportunity to make a true dual 2.5 "exhaust, of course I have used to cancel the catalysts, put a new xpipe and mufflers.
the change in performance and sound has been brutal and also achieved more free height with the floor.
I have done the new route following the original route, as some users of this forum have done in their cars (thanks for your ideas)
I put some photos of how they are.
I have also taken the opportunity to protect the oil pan from the heat, in this picture you can see
I know that welds are ugly, but understand that I am not a welder and they need to be cleaned with acid stripper
The lowest point of our exhaust has always been the area of the cat, with the new route and achieved that it is not like that, in this photo you can see how the apanas tubes protrude from the chassis.
I have made the two rear outputs of 3 "because in 2.5" they looked small and also I have cut them at an angle
well, that's all for now, when I can do soundchecks and put them here.
greetings to all

Nice job. One of the better dual exhaust installs I have seen. I bet its pretty loud with those mufflers and no cats.

BTW, nice setup, I feel like that's the only good way to do a dual exhaust on these cars.

Has anybody ever tried oval tubing? I know, the price would probably be ridiculous.

What kind of acid stripper? Unless the pipe is stainless and the weld filler is a higher grade of stainless the welds will rust. If they already had a coat of rust on them a phosphoric acid treatment might help, but otherwise giving them a coat of most any acid will make them weaker. Give them a coat of high temp paint, spray galvanizing or something similar and leave them alone.
When I was younger I thought that all my f-bodies needed dual exhaust sticking out under the bumper, and my '83 (I put an exhaust on that in 1991) had dual 3" pipes like yours. I finally decided that didn't quite look right and I tried all sorts of different combinations, even trying something low profile like 4th gen exhaust tips, and was never quite happy. I finally decided that there were only 2 ways to go: either put cut outs in the factory bumper like most modern cars have (somewhat difficult because that will involve cutting the steel supports and part of the steel body) or just tuck turndowns back behind the bumper like the factory did. My current 3rd gen has a single 3" turn down tucked up on the driver's side which you can't see, and a second turndown going to an electronic cutout on the passenger side, again, which you can't see. I'm finally happy with what my exhaust looks like

3" collectors to oval pipes, then to a single 4" round pipe over the axle to the 4" muffler and single 4" exit
The oval pipes help with clearance for sure.
Yes, they are more expensive.
Search my name to see my exhaust system

Outstanding work... I'm in the situation that you "were" in... my exhaust sits too low... it's dual exhaust with an X pipe. I'm hoping that I can find someone local that can re-route my exhaust so that it sits up closer to the body.

I would also like to remind folks that I'm a mechanical idiot and the following question isn't an attack of the fact that the OP is Spanish and using Google Translator... I'm just really ignorant when it comes to auto mechanics...
The question I have is... what is apanas tubes?
I searched that term & even searched "Gen 3 Camaro apanas tubes" and couldn't find anything. I'm not sure if the term is misspelled, an error in translation, or just something that I can't find in my searches. I even tried Google Translate... lol.
