Dual Exhaust Questions/Advice
I know not a new subject by any means. Especially with our tight clearanced 3rd gen Camaros. I am planning on a dual exhaust system for my 87. Here is where I have questions. So here is my scenario. I am not moving to an LS based engine, nor do I want one. Call me old school, but I like the standard small block so I have built a good solid balanced 383 using a 1998 4 bolt block, and topped it with AFR heads. I want it to breathe so my goal is true duals. I have been eyeing this dual exhaust kit from Hooker. I have spoken with them and the tech was basically clueless. Here is where all of you come into play. Can I tie this system in with a standard set of SB headers and which ones would work? Throw me under the bus or give me advice, either will be welcome. Thanks in advance.

Re: Dual Exhaust Questions/Advice
Long story short-- You can do whatever you want if you have a TIG or MIG and a bandsaw. They could be made to work but it will not be a bolt and go setup. It may be easier and cheaper to just use a Y pipe and single inlet dual outlet muffler or some max flow "muffler" like a spintech

I’m going with the hooker black heart set up for our cars. I don’t have Ann ls motor either.
Right now the biggest issue I see I’d the spohn cross member.
I’m having a hot rod shop that’s know for fabrication do it up for me.

Re: Dual Exhaust Questions/Advice
I've always been baffled by people who try to craft a dual exhaust for these cars when I don't think I've ever seen any gains in performance or sound from the Y-pipe, single intermediate pipe and dual outlet which has traditionally been used.

Thx guys........keep the comments coming. I will be going dual regardless. We restore antique cars so difficulties are merely another challenge. I am set on it and mostly looking for advice to make this go nice and smooth.

I mostly want to see if anyone has experience with the Hooker system I referenced in my initial post. Anyone know anything about this kit?

Re: Dual Exhaust Questions/Advice
I just had this system installed in my 82 with a 383. I did have a customer crossmember built. Any headers would work as this system is not designed for standard block headers. It is designed to work with LS headers.

Thx Crazynights. Which headers did you use and any issues getting them mated up?

Re: Dual Exhaust Questions/Advice
You can use any set of headers. Just need to mate the collector area to the blackheart exhaust.
I had a custom cross member built to clear the two pipes mating to the blackheart. You may be able to use oval tubing to also save clearance, but custom double hump member is what i did.

Re: Dual Exhaust Questions/Advice
If you have Hooker 2210 or Dougs 3321 (same design as the 2210) you should have no issue adding some pipe to the exhaust.
There is a member on this board who put this exhaust on and had a spohn cross member. He modified it very well. If you search hooker blackheart his car should pop up. He's got great pics of the clearance too.

Re: Dual Exhaust Questions/Advice
It can be done. This is mine that I just finished:
You can read about the build here. Exhaust starts at post 462. I post materials, prices, and process.
