flowmaster cat back install help
I ordered the American thunder series cat back for my 89 transam
thought I could bolt it on with no issues it appears the converter pipe from the kit has a flange and is flared at the end but my converter does not have a flange and the pipe is welded into it has anyone run into this problem if so what did you do is there a way to put a flanged pipe on the converter or could I remove the converter and run a straight pipe or should I cut the flanged and flared section off the convertor pipe I live in Massachusetts not sure if they run emission check on cars this old I really don't want to pay someone to install and weld it all in any help is appreciated

Re: flowmaster cat back install help
Maybe a band clamp. Depending on space, size of pipes, condition of cat pipe. So you cut off flange. Cut off cat pipe with a few inches to clamp on. The butt joint band clamp is what I am thinking of. You can find them online for sure. Auto part stores may have a limited selection.
You'll just have to measure to be sure of size of pipes and space to butt it together.
Hope that helps.

Re: flowmaster cat back install help
I have a single cat ive removed the old exhaust and noticed the old cat is not a stock cat and was welded in now im looking at either running a test pipe and a delete pulley or replacing the cat with a stock one ive found a test pipe on ebay for 90.00 seems like a lot for a 20 pipe with a ball and flange and the cat is 112. on rock auto not much difference in price but then I have to buy the air pump delete for another 50 also not 100% sure I can
pull the cat in Massachusetts and still get a sticker has anyone done this
