Magnaflow complete exhaust part numbers ?

Hi,

I need to replace my whole exhaust, from the factory manifolds to the tail pipes, and want to get the Magnaflow 3" stainless steel parts. I need a Y pipe, catalytic converter and cat-back exhaust.

The car is a 1988 IROC with a L98 350 V8 and T700. Seems like a direct-fit catalytic converter is the best option?

I emails Magnaflow about this, but never got a response.

The Magnaflow parts I think I need are:

V8 5.7L Manifold Pipe; 2.25/3.0in. Tubing; Y-pipe Assy. Manifold Pipe 16450

V8 5.7L 5 x 8 x 18in. Muffler, 3.0/2.5in. Tubing; 3.5in. Polished Stainless Tip; DUAL SPLIT REAR EXIT Cat-Back 16829

5.7L; Excl. Dual Conv. DIRECT FIT CATALYTIC CONVERTER 93441

Does anyone know if these are the correct Magnaflow parts for my car ?

Re: Magnaflow complete exhaust part numbers ?

The 16829 cat-back is the one I used on my 1992. In my case, it took some modifying to get it to fit. I used the magnaflow dual catalytic convertor system to replace my factory dual cats. Those pipes required a lot of cutting and welding to fit the car. Maybe some other people will be able to confirm the rest of the numbers you posted and possibly offer some better experiences with magnaflow products. Good luck

Re: Magnaflow complete exhaust part numbers ?

@TPeye - sounds like you got the "Universal" cats, I was going to get the "Direct Fit" part that should install without welding?

I was going to replace the single factory cat with a single Magnaflow cat, as I understand a new high-flow 3" cat flows as good as the old dual cats.

Do you think it's worth considering dual Magnaflow cats?

Peter,

I sell Magnaflow and those are the correct parts for your car. I have the exact ones on my GTA as a matter of fact.

We can't sell to you (US only restriction), but you should be able to find a local dealer to order for you. The 16829 cat-back is on backorder and won't ship until at least 5/15.

Re: Magnaflow complete exhaust part numbers ?

I just pulled out the receipt from my cats. I used part #23479. It is supposed to be a direct fit. My car might be an oddball where none of the bends lined up. If your car came with a single cat I don't think it worth the hassle to switch to dual cats.

Re: Magnaflow complete exhaust part numbers ?

I'm not sure if Dyno Dons are really a bolt on though. Looks like those dual cat tubes still need a bit of fitting and welding. Not to mention they don't have the cats and Y outlet.

From what I understand (someone correct me if I'm wrong), every year dual cat setup was a little different, and back in the day there were a lot of options that required cutting and/or welding to fit aftermarket cat-backs. Probably the same idea with Dyno Don's.

Unless you are in CA or some other exhaust restrictive (smog ****) state, a single cat system is going to be much easier to deal with and cheaper. The newest generation of cats is super low restrictive, no real issue with power vs dual cats.

We sell a lot of Magnaflow cat-backs and while they do offer a replacement dual cat assembly, they do not offer a dual cat cat-back (only for the single cat). I don't think anyone else does these days either.

Re: Magnaflow complete exhaust part numbers ?

I'm from Australia and the car is Right Hand Drive. There is no way Dyno Don headers would fit.

The only headers that come close to fitting are the Flowtech ones, and even then I'd probably need to cut and shut a couple of the pipes.
