Anyone make a 3 inch intermediate pipe.

I have hooker headers, not 2055 ball flange, but the other style. I need to get an intermediate pipe from the Y pipe where the two 2 1/2 pipes merge together and it needs to go all the back to the Catback. I have it rigged up now but I need to get it right before it falls off, but nobody around makes a 3 inch mandrel bent pipe.

Anyone know of a pipe kit I can get?

These are for a 4th gen, but they fit our cars according to Dyno Don. You will have to have a custom pipe made to go from the Y to where the int hooks up to the cat.

Re: Anyone make a 3 inch intermediate pipe.

So this is the pipe that runs from the cat back to the cat?

Then I just need to find a pipe from where I chopped the y pipe to the cat?

Re: Anyone make a 3 inch intermediate pipe.

Cat to muffler. That's the 2460 Y and you will have to have a pipe made to replace anything you remove from your picture. Now for the part to kick yourself in the butt for. The Dougs D901 Y pipe is the exact same setup as hookers at about $70 less IIRC.

Re: Anyone make a 3 inch intermediate pipe.

I only paid 109 for the y pipe since I found a cheaper one online and summit matched the price. But my problem is just what you said, I need to replace the section of y pipe that I am cutting out with 3 inch pipe, but nobody makes mandrel bends around here, so it is looking like I'm going to have to get 3 inch intermediate pipes and hack it up to suit my needs. If you ask me it's stupid that hooker would take a header that's collector is 3 inch, then neck it down to 2.5. The pipe that comes with the y pipe kit was a joke. It won't reach the cat back either because the off-road pipe they include is like 2 feet too short. I wish that somebody would make a 3 inch y for these headers that includes enough to get back to the cat back.

The black section with cut out is kinda what I have in mind, I wish I could find that pipe.

Re: Anyone make a 3 inch intermediate pipe.

109 is a smoking deal on that Y. I'm not sure how it comes up short for you. Everything was a direct bolt on in stock positions for me, which is why I assume they went with 2-1/2". Word to the wise, get grade 8 bolts and crimped nuts with lockwashers to replace the cheap hardware that comes with this kit. Copper collector and exhaust manifold gaskets as well. You don't want to be replacing blown out gaskets all the time.

Re: Anyone make a 3 inch intermediate pipe.

So here is the problem I ran into. You can see in pic 9 they needed a intermediate pipe because it was a few feet short. So I have to come up with the intermediate pipe after the cat and a pipe before it like the black one in the other pic.

Re: Anyone make a 3 inch intermediate pipe.

That clears things up a little. The intermediate pipe goes from the cat to the muffler. The Y you have is designed for you to cut the exhaust in front of the cat with some pipe length left for you to slide into the expanded/slotted end of the Y. Then the int would take off from there to the muffler. I was under the impression you were using the off road pipe.

Re: Anyone make a 3 inch intermediate pipe.

So I'm thinking since I am doing it I might add a little more flow, would there be any point to adding two 3 inch cats? One on each of the pipes coming off the y. I would just cut the section off where they join.

My lt1 is a high revving motor, I shift it at 6900 and I know that they need good flow to breath. I keep saying I'm going to get a pair of dons header, but never pull the trigger. I think it would run much better with the 1 3/4 primary's, but for now maybe getting the y pipe flowing would help.

Soooo,

Not one muffler shop anywhere near you has the pipe or the ability to mandrel bend it if they did ?

That's sad.

I know that does not help but is still sad.

Re: Anyone make a 3 inch intermediate pipe.

Buy TWO U/J 3 inch mandrel exhaust bends off of ebay for 29.00 each. Two 3 inch straight pipes from Autzone for 7 each. That alone will build damn near your whole catback minus the muffler and outlet pipes.

Re: Anyone make a 3 inch intermediate pipe.

I just ordered up a 3 inch combo pro kit from mandrel-bends and am going to pick up a 16 gauge piece of straight pipe. I'm not the best welder and I have a mig, but I usually use flux core anyway, so this should be interesting and a learning experience.

Is Flux weld ok? or should I get my tank filled and use mig?
What I plan to do is tack it all up, make sure it fits, then take it off and bench weld it.

Flux is fine for exhaust and minor jobs.

Re: Anyone make a 3 inch intermediate pipe.

OK parts should be here soon, just need an opinion.

I'm going to three inch with a cat, it used to be an offroad 2.5 inch intermediate, no cat.. Is adding the 3 inch cat going to negate any gains I see? This thing needs to breath as good as I can get since high rpm is where the motor runs best. It still needs to pass a quick visual inspection under the car. Should I convert to dual 3 inch cat or would that be unnecessary?

Re: Anyone make a 3 inch intermediate pipe.

Ok folks, here it is. The easiest way to do this and probably the cheapest is this.

Buy a pro kit from Mandrel-bends.com. It was only 50 bucks, it comes with 2 90* and 2 45*

You will only need 2 45* and 1 90* and a Cat
If you are not running a cat you will need a 18 inch piece of pipe.

If you are buying a cat, the catco slip fit worked absolutely perfect. I have a total of 100$ into my intermediate pipe including the cat.

I will show how I did it, I think it came out pretty dang good for a home built pipe.

First thing was to fix the crappy y pipe. Its a horrible piece of pipe, the flanges were less than 2 inches because they didn't open them up after the welded them. SO basically the header necks down from 3 to 1.75 inches. thats not acceptable, so I opened them up as far as i could.

Re: Anyone make a 3 inch intermediate pipe.

Next I started to mock up the pipe and tack it in place.

The slip fit cat made it perfect to get the 45* angles to line up with the cat back.

Once it was all tacked up I removed it and had my good buddy stitch up the seams.

Re: Anyone make a 3 inch intermediate pipe.

Here is a look at the Y pipe and intermediate pipe out of the car.

There is a slip joint that hold it to the cat, but its hard to see. I actually ended up flipping the slip so that it faced the other way.

The 90* hooks to the y pipe perfect, I had to massage the 90 so that I could "eat" as much of the y as possible for max flow. Its slightly oval now.

Re: Anyone make a 3 inch intermediate pipe.

Here is a not so good picture of it on the car, it tucks up in there perfect.

With only 100 invested, plus some beers and time, it came out great.

As soon as I started the car I notice it revs quicker already.

Next is to fabricate a custom 3 inch Y pipe and add a electric Cut out.

Here is the link to the pro kit. I have gotten a bunch of PM since I made this thread, so I am adding this link. It went up a little $, but its worth it.

Re: Anyone make a 3 inch intermediate pipe.

I have been getting a bunch of messages regarding this, I have not been on in a while, so to answer common questions I will post here.

Catco number is 6907 it is a percect slip fit match.

The only pipe you need is this.
http://www.mandrel-bends.com/catalog...o-bk-1101.html

This is the best, easiest and probably cheapest mid pipe you can build.
