Just had some new CATCO cats installed last year on my N10 since the originals had seen better days. Anyhow one is rattling now it is really embarassing when driving around town. May be 900 miles driven since replacment. Car has a clean bill of health and has been checked out from top to bottom. What gives? Did I get a defective part or are these things a sub-par product? What are your thoughts on these cats?

There is a warranty, however the shop that installed them wants me to pay another $400 up front to do the work then they will send the old ones back to Catco to determine if I get a credit or if I have to eat the cost. I can see where this is going. Honestly I am seriously temped to gut and sleeve them since the car is registered Historical and no longer requires an inspection, remove the air pump and plumbing to clean up the engine bay. Keep in mind this car will see only1500 miles a year since it is a toy and weekend cruiser. I would hate to be out that money again, and could use it for other items the car needs like new upholstery for the seats. I know you have to pay to play but the car has 94k plus miles and several non factory items. Subframe connectors, wonder bar, and all new KYB shocks and struts, and full urethane bushings. Although it is N10/MM5GM3 kind of puts me in a tight spot, since it is on the rare side. What do you guys think?

Just recently ran into the same issue with mine. It turned out to be the welds on the heat shield failed and was causing it to rattle.

I wish it was a heat shield rattle with mine. That way I could just tack weld it and call it a day. Ugh. How many of you guys run premium gas full time with 10% ethanol? Theses TPI Motor are designed to run hot. With all the ethanol in the premium gas now they will run even hotter! A Big increase in combustion/exhaust temps for sure, not good for the cats. Engine burns hotter and leans out then OBD 1 ECU Says hey let's dump some more gas in there. Next thing you know bye bye cats.
