Louder Exhaust?

Hello all, I have the 80 series Flowmaster on my Camaro, but I'm honestly wanting something quite a bit louder. I understand some modification would be required, but how much louder would the Super 10 series be in comparison to what I have, or if you would recommend some other exhaust? I listened to sound clips of the Loudmouth 1 for example, but it was a bit raspy. I'm simply looking for a bit louder, but also good sounding exhaust setup. I'm not very car savvy or anything, so when it comes to exhaust I'm not the best. My engine is a 350 TBI. Also, what size pipes should I use? Thank you for any input.

Re: Louder Exhaust?

I have a single 3 inch to a flowmaster 40 series and then the dual split....sounds pretty good, have gotten quite a few compliments on it...not too loud....Although, I went away from the loudness cuz it would leave my ears ringing after driving for 1 1/2 hours...I've always wanted to get those exhaust cutouts to be obnoxious....

Until you put a cam in it, leave it alone.

Is that 80 Series a 3in. CAT back with the 3in exit pipes/tips.
I just wanted to know because mines loud.
Not obnoxious but still very loud.
Inside and out.

Re: Louder Exhaust?

It is currently a 2.5in cat-back with 3.5in tips. That is how it was when I bought the car.

Re: Louder Exhaust?

I have true dual flowmaster 44's with H-pipe, and a ***** thumpr cam, and am blessed to live in an area where there are no emissions, so I have NO catalytic converter. 3 in. collectors that run into 2.25 in. pipes to the mufflers. Choppy and nasty, if you want loud this setup has it.

Re: Louder Exhaust?

Here's a vid on my exhaust mentioned in the above post, the video is a little old but it's the same exhaust system, except with new ceramic coated headers and a new carb.

Re: Louder Exhaust?

SMKN, how did you do true dual exhaust??? All the shops I've gone to say it's not possible...not enough room....it will rattle....won't be happy.... I even mentioned going with two 2 1/4 pipes or two 2 inch but they said no?? This was quite a while ago but still...ad another guy tell me he could run under the axle which is possible buuuutt not what I want to do.... So. Did you just run the duals the stock route?

Im not saying it cant be done, but those guys are doing you a favor by not doing it. No professional shop is going to be satisfied with a true dual system on these cars. There's just too many major, serious compromises for practicality and streetability to be able to do it in any kind of professional manner. To do it properly requires a lot of very special techniques and a pretty good knowledge of how the bottom of these cars is laid out to take full advantage of the room we do have. In the end it's far, far, far easier to run a bigger single pipe than duals and it's far more practical too.

A dual 2 inch is going to have the same internal area as a single 3 inch anyway. It's just not worth it unless you have a guy who has the time and willingness to sit around and really design something clever. And that kind of effort and time and money into an exhaust system for a dual 2incher is just never going to be worth it long term.

Re: Louder Exhaust?

It was a difficult thing to do. The most difficult thing was the muffler placement. As you can see on my video where the mufflers ended up.....on the passenger side I'm going to have to cut out a small section of the floorboard of the trunk to get that other muffler to rotate out of the way like the other one is. The pipes are small as well, 2 1/4 in. No real clearance issues EXCEPT that muffler. It's possible, I love the way it turned out and will be even better when I can modify that back floorboard, it's a personal preference whether you want to do it or not, most don't have this on their cars, so it makes mine more special. If I can get some pictures of how it was done I will post them later.
