I bought a set of long tube headers from hedman and while I have searched the forums for installation tips one thing I didn't notice is whether or not others have had issues with the brake reservour and brake boost getting in the way on the drivers side. I have also heard about grinding down the A arm mount. Does anyone have any tips on how to make installation simpler/fast? Not sure where to start, Thanks!

Nothing happens to the brakes. Best thing to do is PRAY...you'll need it.

I got headman headers specifically for the 3rd gen camaro and they dump at the bottom of the oil panand had a collector pipe made at a muffler shop. I had to lift the motor off the mounts by 3 or 4 inches to get them in, then lower the motor before bolting them on. A bit of a pain to install but no grinding or mods were required.

Nice! Yeah it says those hedman 68460 are for third gens. Sucks im gonna have to undo the motor mounts. Did you have to unbolt the tranny or do you think I can manage with those 3-4 inches with the tranny bolted up?

I put a jack under the tranny and removed my cross member but left it connected. I lowered it slightly maybe 1 or 2 inches at the most just to get the angle to make sure the bell housing didn't hit when i raised it.

Sounds like thats the only way to slide them in. Don't understand how others claim they go in without interference.

Well i would give it a good day with a buddy to do it. Also since your going to do this it would be a good idea for $40 or $50 to replace the motor and tranny mounts if they havent been done yet. I didnt and had my tranny mount go on me 2 weeks after and had to do it anyway again! Which really sucked!

you can get them in from the bottom, you need to trim the a-arm bracket, and if your motor mounts are old and sagging you will hvae issues with the drivers side header hitting the K-member

Darn. I just replaced the motor and silly me never changed the mounts. I guess I can try jacking the car up some more and trying to access from underneath, but lifting the motor seems like a fool proof way

Well I would alow a good day with a buddy to do it but it's not that bad. However if your gonna go through the trouble it would be a good idea to spend the $40 or $50 to replace the motor and tranny mounts while it's apart, if they haven't been done. I didn't and my tranny mount went 2 weeks after I had it apart. Which sucked big time!

Ya changing to mounts is accessable from underneath. bit of a pain but worth it. Lol!

Lol no i meant jacking the motor up to install the headers from underneath, not the motor mounts. Thats just *** backwards.

MY mounts are sagged
(you can even see the motor is sitting with a tilt, and my car has been in a BAD wreck...)
I didn't have to do any jacking or any large unbolting.

In my mind there's something wrong with cutting parts to get others in. Lifting the motor worked great for me.

Well after looking at your pics they're not the same type of headers I have. Sorry! U may have to cut to get those in. Mine are short and dump quick. But i would still try to lift the motor and try from underneath before cutting anything.

The tall valve covers are angle cut at the top. Came straight from chevy performance parts. I needed tall ones for the roller rockers to clear. They weren't cheap though.

These are pretty easy to get on. Just trim the a-arm mount a little. The driver's header needs to be slightly bfh'd but not too bad. They go in easy from the bottom. I never unbolt either the crossmember OR the engine mounts when I do them. The trick is to have a ministarter, makes it much easier to get them in. I think one time I did them and I had to lower the tailshaft a little.

Ya they were $350 Canadian so roughly that in US $... Lol We pay through the nose up here.

Whew, I thought that's about right, Thought I saw those at a local pepboys. Think I will stick to the ones that were on my 305 lol. But hey thanks again to all you guys for the help I really appreciate it. I may have to keep in touch as I finish this thing, got a few more questions I might need answered and you guys seem plenty knowledgable.
