Question about Summit/Flotech/ebay shorty headers

I just bought an 86 Z28 a couple weeks ago (FINALLY have a rust-free car), and found out the shop one of my friends works at has an exhaust pipe bender. My plan is to install headers and drive it the an hour up to the shop and have Dual exhaust installed (along the trans, under the cross-member, rout driver's side under driveshaft to pass side of trans tunnel, both pipes along the stock route from there.

I want to retain the O2 sensor, so my options are either long tubes with header extensions to accommodate the sensors, or shorties. If I go with shorties, I'll prolly get the SS "flotech" copies off ebay to compliment the chrome I plan on installing.

Anyways, now that my long shpeel is done, can anyone provide some pics showing the ground clearance of the summit/flotech/ebay headers installed? I want to see what I'd be dealing with for routing the driver's side pipe from the header. I know I've seen pics on here before, but I couldn't find them when I tried the search this time, so if anyone can help me out, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Those headers are tiny and suck.

Buy a set of hedman shorties or if you are going to run duals anyway, get some long tubes.

Either way, you can weld in a bung for the o2 sensor on the drivers collector.

Re: Question about Summit/Flotech/ebay shorty headers

I've kinda been leaning toward long-tubes anyways, in case I ever get around to replacing the LG4 some day. However, seeing as it is an LG4, I'm still open to considering the stainless ebay headers for the look, price, and being a bit easier to install than long tubes. But, if it's gonna be too much of a pain to route the rest of the exhaust, I'll just go with the long tubes. Regardless, if anyone has pics of the collector clearance after install, I'd still appreciate them, as I'm sure wound anyone else looking for them in the future.

Re: Question about Summit/Flotech/ebay shorty headers

The primaries and collectors are too small, even for a 305.
Fit is not good.

Do a search and you'll find plenty of complaints. Not worth the price savings, when hedmans can be had for not much more.

I've seen some longtube hedmans on here real cheap lately as well.

Re: Question about Summit/Flotech/ebay shorty headers

Yes, I have heard plenty of complaints (been researching headers on this site for years for the Camaro I just sold, just never had the extra money), but I have also seen just as many ppl saying for a 305, they're fine, just have to watch one or two things on install to avoid issues, and as far as size, that seems to be a matter of opinion, with no clear majority.

So from what I can determine, they're just on that fine line where some will never consider them, and others will take the small amount of extra work to make them work without issue, hence why I'm willing to consider the Stainless Steel ones, more because they look better than painted headers. And, while I'm still leaning toward Long Tubes, if there's anyone with pics from underneath of the ebay/flotecs installed, I'd still like to see them if it's not too much trouble. Thanks!
