Will a Cut-Out make a difference?
Hello,
I have a 1991 305 TBI Camaro RS it's all stock except for a flowmaster 80 series muffler, magnaflow CAT and an elderbrock intake filter. I want it to be LOUD so someone told me to put a cut-out infront of the Cat and it will be so loud. I had stock manifolds and dont want to spend a lot of money. Will the Cut-out make a difference? Will it affect how my car runs?

Yup it'll be grain truck at 4am loud.. It wont hurt anything but your ears and your wallet when u keep getting pulled over 4 driving a sporty dumptruck..
Honestly its soooo not worth it but do what you want its your car.

Your best bet would be to get a set of headers and y-pipe and get rid of the stock junk. You will sound better, get better fuel milage and even pick up a few extra horse power, not a lot but you will feel it. Thats way better than having cut outs. Then later on you can build up a nice running engine and already have the exhaust in place.

If you were to do this i would deffinately put it after the cat, actually id put it right after where the floorboard is for the backseat. It'll sound loud, but wont be so loud its horrible. Also I would change teh mufflers, y pipe, and a high flow cat asap! that is money better spent...and your car will actually be faster!

i have a flowmaster with a magnaflow high flow cat its just the headers i can get a pair of longtubes but, every place around here charges like 900 to put them on and that's just to much money.

Yep, if mounted wrong it will burn a hole in your carpet.
Will it be loud? Yes, but it will serve no function unless you change cam, heads, rotating assembly, oil delivery, fuel delivery, ECM, intake, air supply and trans and rear to something that would actually benefit from such a short exhaust.
Unless you're willing to modify the car into a race track only vehicle, forget about cutouts and invest your money more wisely.
Something like a cat back exhaust, an open element filter and a set of new tires will make you happier in the long run and not reduce the resale value of the car.

Re: Will a Cut-Out make a difference?
i ru my 305 tbi with just a cat an it sounded like a dump truck . i cut out the cat an put a flowmaster 40 an i like that sound alot better . i have stock manifolds still so it's not ungodly loud but it's got a nice rumble .i have hedman shorty headers in the basement i need to install hopefully after that it will be a little louder but i'm not sure when i'm putting them on . i'd like to do heads an the lt1 an the headers all at the same time . in overdrive with the windows up you can hear the motor but you don't have to yell either .

Re: Will a Cut-Out make a difference?
You want to make it quieter right?! To do that you have to put something infront of the cutout. Doesn't matter what's behind it, with the cutout open 90% of your exhaust flow is going to take the easiest exit path, which is through the big @ss hole in your exhaust.

Re: Will a Cut-Out make a difference?
Well, you're kind of at a crossroads, because there really aren't any catbacks that offer the performance gain or tone that a cutout does for the money. You'll be spending at least a couple hundred for a good catback plus install. And since you already have a flowmaster, I guess what else can you do, but put the plate back on the cutout and run the muffler you've got. Your only other option is, like I said, put a resonator infront of it.

Re: Will a Cut-Out make a difference?
Does the cutout have a flange to whcih you could mount something?
In that case, couple it to a cherrybomb and a side exiting exhaust setup.
That way you'll have a working exhaust behind the cutout, with an odd angle to it.

Re: Will a Cut-Out make a difference?
Before you do anything go to a muffler shop that does inspections if you have to have them. They will be able to help you do it right and legal. You don't need to spend the money doing this and find out later you have to take it all back off. Like others have said spend the money wisely. A load car for the sake of being load usually is just a PITA for the driver, passengers and everyone around it!

Re: Will a Cut-Out make a difference?
You can bolt a purple hornie onto the cutout and quiet it down a lil and give a better sound. I just got my cutout back on today. is obnoxious but my car can use it now.
