Looking for the Most Exotic/Badass Sounding Muffler/Catback
Ok guys i know i make a lot of topics about what exhaust i should get, but i'm really going crazy here trying to figure out what muffler/catback belongs on my car. The plan for this summer is simply a hi flow cat and 3" catback...won't have the money for headers til atleast next summer.
I had the hooker catback on my RS and it was too tame. Stock for stock, my Z28 is noticably louder than my RS was...but I'm not sure if the hooker is going to satisfy me. All i'm looking for is a unique sound thats got a very distinctive muscle car tone, preferably not obnoxious because i like to be classly. Obviously i can't sound like a Mustang Gt or Cobra because of the engine and h-pipe but i want to have a car that sounds just as badass (albeit different) as those cars. Basically, I want to be able to pull up to my uncles '05 NSX (which has some crazy imported Japanese exhaust) and impress him.
So far, I have considered and been looking into:
-Hooker (i know it sounds good, just not sure how tame it's gonna be on my Z28)
-Magnaflow Muffler w/dynomax 3inch i-pipe
-TSP Rumbler
-Borla (if my dad chips in some money )
-GMMG
-SLP LM 2
+3" hi flow cat
Obviously the first three are much more feasible because of price...

i think you might want to think things through....
yeah a loud exhaust is loud, but i would rather have an exhaust thats some what loud but it sounds good too, i mean you don't want somthing thats like open headers? yeah it's cool, but after a while it will give you a headache and you will probably end up hating it..... from what i hear the mufflex 4" single out with the flowmaster is the best sounding exhaust for our cars, maybe i am wrong, but search for some sound clips, i am sure you will have a few choices to choose from and then make a good decision...

I think you seriously misunderstood what I was asking. I said i really dont want something obnoxious. But I would much rather have something that is a louder than the hooker catback was on my RS. Badass doesn't necessarily equate to "really loud". I have listened to pretty much every soundclip for the aforementioned catbacks, but most of them are either on LS1s or heavily modded (headers/cam) L98's. I'm just looking for opinions on what would be the most unique, exotic, and badass sounding catback exhaust/muffler that I can put on my LB9.

Borla is adjustable, so if you you don't want it to be loud you can just change the plates. I'm gonna get Borla when I save up the money but for now I'm gonna get a Bullet and swap out the 2.5" Dynomax that resides under the trunk.

I'd say Borla or GMMG. Expensive but worth it in my opinion.

ok i will let the cat out of the bag its my secret exhaust weapon! 3'' from y-pipe back dynomax I pipe its a two piece then it goes into a LS1 dynomax ultaflow 3'' in an dual 3'' outs fully welded muffler basically its a race muffler i got it from NAPA auto parts an i looked it up in there book it says this muffler is rated to flow up to 500+hp unrestricted. now i used to have an 88 t/a 305 tpi and but a magnaflow cat back set-up on it and it sound really good one of the best i ever heard on a third gen after i sold the car i ran in to the guy later and got to hear my car next to his and mine was much more badass.

sorry bro, didn't mean to ruffle feathers man, forgive me....
i had a friend that had a 90 iroc 305 5 speed, tpi, he had the flow master catback on it, sounded pretty wicked, ireally thought it had a big block, but to my amasment it had just the 305!

You could call spintech and tell them you want their loudest crossflow muffler. That's what I did. They have one with 3 inch inlet and 3 inch outlet. The guy also said he could go up to 3 1/2 to 4 inches. They also will bend you all the pipes. Just call them and tell them what you want and they will make it custom. It will be high, but that's exotic.

I say the Borla catback, and instead of ripping that piece of your exhaust off everytime you want to change a plate, just get an electric cut-out so you have it at the flick of a switch. I mean Borla already sounds great on these cars, but with the elec. cut-out you can change the tone and loudness whenever, wherever. Thats what I would do if I was you. Other than that I would personally go true dual with some spintech mufflers. Just my 2 cents! Good luck

Re: Looking for the Most Exotic/Badass Sounding Muffler/Catback
I put a flowmaster catback on my car when it was still stock, and it sounded wicked.. absolutly incredible. Now I'm blowing alot more air through it with better heads, cam, etc.. I don't particularily care for the sound for its too loud.
If you going to be keeping your LB9 fairly stock, I don't think there is a better sounding catback then the american thunder flowmaster unit. If you watch my first burnout video you can hear it when it was first put on.

i agree with Brisk for a stock 305 the flowmaster american thunder is a good sounding exhaust for a low price, the only downfall is that everyone has one, it is a very common catback.

SLP LM. Sound is pretty raw. The mufflers??? are just a pipe but if you find it too loud or obnoxious, you can swap in a SLP II muffler in minutes. Change back/forth in years to come to tailer any changes you do to the car.
Or just go Borla.

Re: Looking for the Most Exotic/Badass Sounding Muffler/Catback
flowmaster is alright..i liked it on mine but wanted more.. now i have a chambered tube and gutted cat and its abit loud for my taste. idle tone is absolutely awesome, but rev tone is ok and thus i want better. so i may do it over again
from what i've seen i'd do a GMMG (kinda a hit or miss tho as i heard some that sound like ***) or a spintech on a mufflex. mufflex single 3.5inch tho may be too big for a 305. definately wouldnt go 4inch.
mufflex makes some MEAN catbacks for our cars...lots of options on their site. for the money i'd go mufflex with a spintech. thats if you dont mind having single exhaust exit

My hooker catback with a 3" cat sounds really good with my LT1. I don't know how different it would sound like with your engine though.

I have a flowmaster 80 series on mine...it sounds alright, but I think that it's not loud enough under full throttle. I want to put a 40 series on w/ one in and two out on the same side (driver side), then it would sound as badass as stangs sound with them on!

I'm not sure mine is exotic or even badass sounding as I have a pathetic 305 at the moment...but i don't know anyone else running it.

Re: Looking for the Most Exotic/Badass Sounding Muffler/Catback
alright man, I got some ideas. You're looking for what almost everyone wants... something that decently loud but not obnoxious. Something that will give you good power gains but without a hefty price tag. An exhaust that isn't used by everyone, but will still impress others. Time to get original. there are alot of exhaust out there, some get more play then others. Basically, to stay refined you need to stay away from Bullet style mufflers. So, now your limited to straight through full size mufflers and chambered mufflers. A magnaflow is a little louder than a hooker, so that could an option for you. Also, look into the SLP 2OTL catback. Its a very nice system that I think would be good for you. Also, Bassani mufflers, Random technology mufflers, mufflex mufflers, dynomax, spintech, all are going to give you a refined tone that is noticably louder than stock and without much resonance in the interior.
I've had a dynomax muffler and a flowmaster muffler on a headers/y-pipe 305tpi and they both equally just a notch above stock muffler sound, and both had a nice unique tone to them with flowmaster having a slightly more "tinny" sound. Hope this helps your decision.

Looks obvious to me. It's everything you're looking for: muscle car tone, classy/classic, even 'exotic.'
