I need a point in the right direction...

I have used the search a lot, and could not find the answers I needed. So please bare with me!

I have a 1984 Z-28 with the 305 5.0L H.O. (L69). It's a carbed motor.

Well I have been considering purchasing new headers, and I am pretty sure I will be going with the Hooker 2055's. From what I read in another post, to install these I will have to modify the AC bracket. Because it looks like it bolts on to the existing exhaust manifold. So what do I modify? What do I need to keep my car emissions legal? Do I need the Air tubes? I really need some help with this. I am getting the exhaust done at a shop, all custom bent. Its gonna be a 3" exhaust setup. I need links to sites that sell the headers I am looking for.

I would also like to get some links to some high flow Catalytic Converters.

I need an exact setup that will work on my car. I want to be able to order the headers ASAP.

Thanks in advance guys.

PS: I really need links to sites that sell these header. And please link to the exact page! Hope Im not asking to much.

IIRC, according to Hooker's instructions, one leg of the AC bracket requires removal--if not the bracket will not fit over the header tube. You'll need the air to keep the vehicle legal. I'm using a Catco high-flow converter along with a Hooker catback. Purchased my stuff from Summit and Jeg's.

Check the following link for part numbers:

Thanks for your info. I found official installation instructions from Holley about installing these on our cars. It even has a diagram of what to cut off of the AC bracket.

Install Instuctions

Its a PDF file.

Also, I am guessing that on Jegs, I want the headers that have the part # 520-2055? They are the very first listing on this page.

Hooker Headers

If so I will be purchasing these today!

Thanks again!

wish i knew what i know now, i woulda went w/ the 2055's and "subtracted" the air tubes.

more expensive, but beats the hell out of not having ground clearance...

have fun!

Thanks for the input, but how do the airtubes affect ground clearance? The headers bolt to the same exact place with or without them. The Air tubes are also on top of the headers, and these are shorties. Maybe I misunderstood you.

Thanks

my first car was an '85 iroc, same setup as yours. get the hedman shorties, get them coated, lose the cat and run you a true dual setup in the stock location. you will not be displeased.

I wasn't refering to ground clearance w/ the airtubes, i simply need to remove them because I'm not using emissions...

sorry to confuse ya!
