larger y pipe possibilties?

I have decided on getting the Hedman headers (ceramic coated) for my Firebird. It has the 305 now and will be switched to a 350 next summer, so they will swap over ok.

I have a Dynomax cat-back (I think just under 3 inches diameter) that I want to use with this setup. My problem is that the Hedman Y pipe is only 2.25 inches from what I've been told. This is not looking good from a flow standpoint.

Anyone know of a source for a bolt-on Y pipe for these headers that are larger in diameter? I'd like at least 2.5 and preferably 3 inch so I can run a 3 inch cat on this system.

Is it possible to buy the Hedman Y pipe and have the part in back of the point where the two pipes joint cut off and a 3 inch pipe put in there? Anyone ever done this? Thanks!

Me and my friend just did this to my heddman y pipe, it was 2.5 we cut it of and used a 3" 90 and 45 bend. cut the 90 to get the right angle and mig it together. Then I sent it to jet hot to have it coated.

Hmmm.... This sounds good! Thanks for sharing that. I may just order the Headman Y pipe and check out the length and angles. I can get 90 degree and 45 bends easily and fab this up. Are you sure the Headman Y pipe is 2.5 inches? I thought they were set up for a 2.25 inch cat converter application. Wonder if there will be that much gained from going from 2.5 to 3 inch? Again, thanks!

My hedman y pipe is part number 17470 and was 2.5 where the two pipes came together. The funny thing is it s 3 inch where they meet but they reduce it down to 2.5. I also at the same time change my catback too a 3" banks system .It was a dynomax 2.5 super turbo system. There is a huge differnce in my cars performance, it also got rid of a bog i had .
