Either a Flowmaster or Hooker cat back......a set of headers would do the trick...and an exhaust cutout (electronic would be nice)...now...that would be loud .....I'm just missing the headers...but..I'm trying on working to save some cash to get a set.

Hooker Long Tubes, 3" Pipe all the way back, 12" Borla XR-1 (3 1/2" in/out) with a 4" cummins tip out the back. I promise you will get the sound your looking for. Two of my friends have that exhaust on there third gens and I nut myself everytime I hear there cars.

I'd say Hooker or Flowmaster, for a near stock motor, I'd say you might like Flowmaster better, but there's a sound clip of the Hooker in my sig.

oh come on mark... say it!! if u dont i will.. .i think hooker sounds a lot deeper then flowmaster. and you cant beat the quad tips... that looks mean... i might but a slight angle cut on my tips, but for right now, i wana put it on!!! Hooker aero with some nice headers with a solid head and cam... that would make a 2.8 sound mean..

edelbrock headers with a random tech cat and a flowmaster american thunder system with dual 3" outlets shakes the ground. same setup without a cat is even louder. have a cat, buddy has no cat, both sound wicked together.

No b/s. If you want a loud *** exhaust, bye the MAC system. This system is loud as hell! Just ask my wife, she hates riding in the car because she says it is too loud.
MAC exhaust
The whole system bolts together with flanges. No leaking gaskets, no pipes rusting together. I love it, only regret, I was a cheap SOB and didn't spend the extra $100 for the chrome tips.

Dumps!
Where we meet up at the races, Fuddruckers, there is this Chevelle 454 SS, completely worked, that burns alcohol. He's got a dump system run, and you can FEEL him comming from about a 1/2 mile away.

If you want something REAL loud, SPINTECH! Especially one of their race mufflers. A cam and headers would also probably help. You couldn't get any louder than an exhaust cut-out though!! (Before Cat.) -89IRO

If you don't care about performance and only care about sound, the flowmaster would work.

I say have the best of both worlds. Buy the flowmaster american thunder catback and get a cutout. You can't beat the sound of flowmaster or the performance of a cutout.

I have hooker and I don't believe it will be the loudest that you can get. In terms of sound quality, it can't be beat, the sound is sooo beautiful hehe it is loud but not the loudest.

The Flowmaster all 3" system IMO also. And the cutout too.
I will say though that my friend has a 92 Z28 350 TPI with Borla single out with the dual tips they make and it sounds really good and its pretty loud. But single outlet exhaust with dual tips or not, is not for me.

I have the borla exahaust with no plate on my LS1. It is actually pretty quiet at idle, but holy crap, once you get on it you can hear that thing from over half a mile away, no joke. Still in my opinion flowmaster might not have the best performance, but it sounds the best. If you want a nice sound, but are concerned with peak performance just get flowmaster with a cutout.

I whish I could do a cut-out but I live in damn California. Won't ever pass smog. I might be able to get away with it if I installed it after the cat., but then I just couldn't say "I have straight headers at the push of a button."
To me, flowmaster is like an ***-hole, everbody's got one. Plus, to me, they don't sound good, just a crappy drone, and when they get on the gas, it sounds to me like there is a marble stuck in the muffler. And yes, I've heard that flowmaster doesn't flow for ****. It's funny how all the big trucks at my school have a flowmaster (rich kids think it gives them 75 HP) and they all sound the exact same. Anyways, I have a spintech, and love it. For my next project, my '67 Chevelle, I will probably either put on spintech racing mufflers or a couple of those dynomax bullet mufflers- I hear those are pretty loud. Please don't be too harsh on me cause I'm putting down flow. Just my opinion. -89IRO

I don't know about MAC, but I do have the crossflow (343SC) Spintech muffler. I love it! At idle, it is low and deep, but still noticeable. But once I hit 1500 rpm, it starts to get pretty loud. And then once you get to 3500-4000 it's very loud. If you are looking for something with a uniqe and different sound, get a spintech. They usually cost a little more than a flow, but you pay for the better quality. Evil has a sound clip so do a search. -89IRO

thats a video of my motor idling with:
Hedman Shorty headers
Hedman Y-pipe
Flowmaster American thunder cat-back
Keep in mind these parts are old, the flowmaster sounds TOTALLY different now than it did 3 years ago. it also changed tone a Lot when i changed the cam back from wild to mild.

Doesn anyone have sound clips of the MAC exhaust?

Actually, I read in this one issue of my friends Fast Fords and Mustang (or whatever the magazine is called) that they've used Flowmasters on engines producing up to 400 hp and they've never cost them horsepower. I've heard other people on here say otherwise, but I read this in text.

I have NEVER heard an exhaust that sound anything like what mine does. I will admit I do have some motor puttin out the sound but My combo is bad ***-----Think ferrari on steroids.
Headman Long tube to 3 inch duals y'ed into a 4 inch pipe over the axle into a 4 inch Flowmaster Race delta flow and out a 4 inch tail pipe. It has no backpressure and makes my motor sounds like it's turning 14,000 rpms. It is a little loud but I have driven right in front of a cop and nothing happened. Here is a pic frome the back of my car.

with the 2.8 i used to have I just put bigger piping without a muffler...that was loud and mean sounding, of course the car did need some back pressure so I added a resinator to quiet it down...still sounded mean tho

I thought on our cars, if you ran long tube headers, you would have really bad ground clearance??? Isn't that why they make "shorty" style headers? -89IRO

Well looks like I'm the sole Edelbrock cat back fan again.
I have not heard another street driven 3rd gen (in person) that IMO sounds meaner and more powerful than mine.
Its got decent low note at idle, it won't shake the ground too much, but rear exit exhausts usuall don't.
On the throttle it kills other exhausts I think. I have Flowmaster on my other car, and have friends with Hooker and Borla systems, they don't sound full enough or nearly as authorative to me.
