I see that Pace Parts just came out with a TPI manifold for the Vortec heads. I own an 88 Camaro with a TBI and was looking into the Vortec heads. I also see that GM Performance Parts makes a TBI manifold for Vortec heads. If I was to swap my engine for a 350 with Vortec heads, what would be the best way? Should I switch over to a bigger TBI unit, convert to TPI, or switch to a carb? Money is sort of an issue right now, but I would like to know the pros and cons of each so I can make a decision based on facts instead of my limitations.

Since you are on a limited budget, I would forget the TPI idea. You would have to get the Vortec TPI base, for about $400. Then you would have to get an entire TPI setup: computer, harness, runners, plenum, fuel rails, injectors, etc.. That adds up to alot of money.

Since you already have TBI, I would stick with that. Get the Vortec TBI manifold and you're set. You may want to upgrade to a bigger TB to get more airflow. Is your current motor a 305? If so then upgrade the chip as well as the TB.

If you went the carb route, you would need a Vortec intake, new carb, distributor, etc. Plus you would have to bypass/remove the computer and electronics, or else your Service Engine Soon(SES)would always be on. If you remove the electronics, you would not have a functioning SES light because the computer turns it on. I'm not sure but on some cars, the gages are powered by the computer as well. If you have emissions testing/inspections you will fail with a carb setup. That's my $.02. Later.
