400 sbc hone
I have a sbc 400. Cylinders look good aside from ring ridge. You can not fell it with your fingernail. It will me a mild street build. Trans will shift at 5500 rpm. Will never see 6000rpm. High flow heads, mild cam. The cylinders mic 4.1255 - 4.126. Should I hone some more the get rid of ridge mark? or call it good?

I know there's plenty of opinions on here. I'd love to hear them.

Re: 400 sbc hone
Ball hone & dial bore gauge is on the way. I'll check the bore before I do more damage. Thanks. I have one piston that is 0.004 smaller than the rest so I might have to find a piston if I go with the OE pistons.

What grit Ball-Hone are you going to use?
...It makes a difference!

Also, I would not touch the Bores until you purchase your Pistons and know what the Piston to Cylinder-Wall Clearance needs to be.

Re: 400 sbc hone
The hone is 180 grit. What do you suggest?
I am planning on using the OE pistons but I have to find one because one piston is .003 smaller than the rest of them making the piston to cylinder clearance .007 on that one.

Re: 400 sbc hone
It sounds like you will have too much Piston to Wall Clearance...
But having an actual Spec. on those Pistons would be very helpful.
I would chat up an Automotive Machinist for a recommendation.
One Piston is 0.003" Smaller than the other Seven?
It's far from ideal to have different size Pistons... but a Bob-Weight alteration could make it work.
What is the weight difference between the Two different size Pistons?
What are you going to do in regard to Balancing the Rotating Assembly?

Re: 400 sbc hone
I don't have a scale that will weigh them. I will have it checked for cracks and I can ask them then.
I haven't thought that far out about balancing. It will be a low rpm engine, 5500. I didn't think balancing was critical for that rpm. But I'm not against balancing.

Re: 400 sbc hone
I ordered the hone on April 6 from Ebay. This past Friday I get an email from Ebay saying that is was delivered with a Fedex tracking number. But it wasn't delivered here. I called Fedex and they said it wasn't delivered to me and since my name wasn't on the shipping label they can't talk to me about it. I go to Ebay site to claim non delivery and they show me the Fedex tracking number. Case closed. I called Paypal. They show tracking number as delivered. Case closed. Today it showed up in a white deliver type van with "Budget" on the side. The box is an Amazon box with Amazon shipping tape. I bet this will work great. 🤣

Re: 400 sbc hone
What you described is a common scam.
Once a tracking number is provided, the seller is off the hook.
Some scammers send an empty box to an incorrect address close to yours, and then the burden of proof becomes yours.
I can't believe anything showed up at all.

Re: 400 sbc hone
I looked at the sellers feedback after the fact and there were a other people that had the same problem. At least now I can return it. I was going to return an empty box anyway. Right back to em.

Re: 400 sbc hone
The other thing the scammers do is.... again provide a tracking number, and you wait, and wait, and contact the seller,
wait, contact the shipper, and more waiting.
They are purposely stalling so that the time window expires, and again, now it's your problem.

Re: 400 sbc hone
i had the exact same thing happen to me when I ordered a lifter bore hone.
Fedex says it was delivered...
It wasn't delivered here...
Fedex says the name on the package isn't even my name so they won't help me...
I did get another one sent and received it though.
