1200hp trans am... on the street!

years ago I found the most badass post about this transam from Sweden or Finland or another northern Europe country... this car had an all-out drag engine BUT it was setup to run on street. Huge bbs wheels and brakes, some holes in the front bumper to aid in cooling and good for close to 400km/h
anyone knows what I'm talking about?

another build by a magazine, for a California car had the tpi intake a little massaged up. the goal was 600hp WITH all pollution equipment in place. they went vortech s/c and nitro.

my car is mostly stock, but the day something major goes I want to hear some ideas what can be done and for what budget. personally I'd like an all aluminum engine to shed some weight from the nose of the beast. but also like the charachter of the tpi. so maybe go 383 and vortech heads...
rode in a stealthram bird and it was fast, but lost all character of what makes a thirdgen a thirdgen. was more like an lt1

thanks!!!

Don't use magazine articles as a basis of a build. They are very uninformative and don't represent real life builds.

Is this the car you were refering to? http://ls1tech.com/forums/automotive...-trans-am.html

And I agree with Alky. Magazines have a bad habit of sensationalism to put big numbers on the cover.

Re: 1200hp trans am... on the street!

I've seen fantastic cars in magazines with big number boasts but no dyno sheets and no 1/4 mile timeslips to verify performance claims.

There are so many little things involved in a build that magazines will never cover. Read them for entertainment and build ideas but don't expect to have anything close to what they claim to do.

You can make a car that looks like it can do an 8 second 1/4 mile but would have trouble getting out of the 12's. It would look pretty in a magazine but in the real world, it's nothing special.

My car isn't a street car. If I put it on a dyno, I may see 1000 HP. I could throw 3 stages of NOS on it and claim to have over 2000 HP but that kind of power could never get to the ground properly in my car.
