Opionion on 350 Swap
I am swapping the 305 TPI in my 1991 z28 convertible to a TPI 350. A machinist in my area, northern NJ, is charging me $3,000.00 to: rebuild a 350 block with upgraded pistons (he said we will be increasing the compression ratio by doing so), port and polish stock heads, increase the stock cam with one that is TPI compatible, provide new 350 fuel injectors, new ECM prom and knock sensor, new water pump and internals, remove the 305 and install the 350 and clean the engine bay. He is supplying the long block. Is this a fair price?

I would have to know more about the parts and if he is doing any tuning. Although I would not pay $3000 for anything with stock TPI heads.

$3000 drive-in to drive-out isn't bad at all.
Just make sure you don't get a head downgrade from the correct stock 350 TPI ones; i.e., the heads that go back into your car, are casting 083. No substitutes. No ifs ands or buts. No "almost as good". Above all, NO 191, 193, 624, 882, or 993.

Re: Opionion on 350 Swap
besides the head number as mentioned, I would really want to know what all I am paying for besides just new parts, what pistons, bearings, cam with numbers, lifters, $3000 isn't bad, I would ask more questions about the all the internals, is there a warranty of any kind how much or long if so. regardless if you know the guy that owns/works at the machine shop, most importantly, get all warranty info in writing. I'm sure your a smart person and would get this info anyways, just my 2 cents worth
