350 swap / NO Computer?
Hi, Can someone please offer me some advice on this subject. I was originally intending to put a 383 stroker into my 1982 Pontiac Trans Am, but have decided to build a 350 chevy instead. Bearing in mind I am not required to have any emissions control in my country, It has always been my intention to make the build as mechanical as possible. I am also intending to put in a TH350 trans, and replace the computer controlled Quadra Jet out. Is it at all possible to completely remove the computer and make everything completely mechanical? If so, what would the undertaking be? And is it worth it?

Re: 350 swap / NO Computer?
Thank you for your reply but I guess what I am asking in addition is what other things I may have to do, for instance maybe changing out the distributor with a vacuum advance for a non CC carb? I hear the TH350 trans does not require lock up switch modifications but again I am not sure. I am also hoping that someone may be able to confirm what other vital functions are dependant on the computer so I don't miss anything.

Re: 350 swap / NO Computer?
Hello 'Jones82TransAM,
I did the same thing in my car. I switched the carburetor to and non-cc Edelbrock and the distributor to a non-cc version. After that the computer really served no purpose. All of the wires that were coming through the firewall on the passenger’s side were now useless and I removed them. I also removed all of the computer stuff from under the passenger dash. I currently have very little wiring in my engine compartment and none of it is computer controlled. I also ripped out all of the emissions stuff and that saved a lot of space.
As far as your transmission, the TH350 is not computer controlled or anything but it does have an electronic lock-up.
