Re: ls1 or 383?
SBC is cheapest and easiest and still plenty of power available. If you absolutely need ultimate power and don't mind the swap headaches go LS. Don't get sucked in by all the internet hype on the LS stuff, 4-500hp SBC's are everywhere.

Re: ls1 or 383?
That's a classic debate. CopperHead is right. The 383 might make more power for a cheaper price, however, there are tons of other things to consider other than simply power. A properly matched Heads, Cam, full bolt on Ls1 can easily make around 440-450 at the rear wheels. And this motor can be daily driven and achieve pretty good gas mileage, compared to the 383. Try daily driving a 383 with those HP numbers, yeah it's possible, but I'm sure the LS1 would be more streetable.
I say go stock LS1, then get a better cam, heads, etc as funds/time become available. The potential power and driveability is what LS motors are all about.
I made a thread about a similiar topic and at the time was actually leaning toward getting a L98 instead of LS1. This thread has some good input

Your question is pretty vague though. What is your budget and plans for the car?

Re: ls1 or 383?
I wanna go with a 383 I'm not really in a budget but I don't wanna put to much money lol I'd go with ls1 but idk all about the wiring stuff.even though I'm pretty handy.but I'd rather not mess with it. If my stock rs 305 suspension is in good condition I put all polyethylene bushings all alround will that hold about 400hp or what will I need? Intentions street fun maybe take it to the strip.

The downsides to an LS swap are the swap adapter mounts for engine and tranny (readily available, but necessary), exhaust fabrication/expense, and as you mentioned, wiring (although that isn't as complicated as it sounds - if I can do it, most any "handy" person can).
If you want a more "bolt-in" swap, then go with the 383.
Just remember, "There's no such thing as a bolt-in."

Re: ls1 or 383?
Just to weigh in on the "blueprint engines 383".
I ran their BP3834CT1 engine in my Camaro for a couple summers. It was never right from day one, and I called to express concerns multiple times without any help.
Number1 exhaust rocker arm would always walk off the side of the valve stem, adjusting the guide plates only resulted in mis-alignment issues elsewhere. Their remedy was for me to purchase and install self-aligning rocker arms at my cost and my time.
Always had a light lower end noise. It was explained as piston slap because of short piston skirts; which I suppose I was accepting of that explination.
Oil pan and rear main both leaked oil badly, and these were both installed before being shipped to me(not my doing). They were of no help here, and I also fixed on my time and dime.
Burned oil BADLY, to te point you could see faint blue puffs if smoke at WOT. Plugs would become oil fouled around every 1,000 miles. So much oil reached the combustion chambers that oil would leak past the spark plug threads. I used a quart every 800-1000 miles after I fixed the oil leaks and was told "some oil consumption is acceptable, and I had nothing to worry about".
Finally, I had blown it up, cylinder 5 detonated at the racetrack one night, 3 months before the warranty ended. Thankfully they did warranty the engine at no cost to me. I found several others with oil consumption issues online, and decided to sell the engine when I recieved it back before I ever pulled it out of the crate.
My best time at the track was a 12.93, the dyno sheet claimed 430HP and 465TQ.
The next engine made 391HP and 374 TQ at the tire( close to same crank HP as the 383 dynoed at) and ran 12.20s with no gear, tire, or suspension changes, leading me yodel that their HO numbers are possibly falsely inflated.
If you plan on buyin a blueprint crate engine I would do some serious homework first. I would hate to see somebody have the same issues I and several others had.

Darn blueprint makes it sound so good I've seen them on tv shows to but its all a scam.luckily I just found out that my neighbor builds engines so he's gonna be my machinist. Thanks for all the advise Guy's I'd love an ls1 but I think it'll br to much money n pain in the ***.
