Vortec 350, 292 cam and 305 heads
Talking to a friend who dabbles in engines and he recommended a Vortec 350 with a 292 cam and using a set of 305 HO heads. Said it wouldn't be to expensive and would be streetable. I've read the 305 heads on it would make the compression good enough for the cam. What are ya'lls thoughts and what kind of torque and HP could I expect?

Serious mis-match of RPM ranges. The 292 cam starts working about the same RPM as the 305 heads become a restriction. Try something more like a 268.

Re: Vortec 350, 292 cam and 305 heads
"Vortec" = it came with better heads than any 305 ever did
"Vortec" w 305 heads = somebody took off the good stuff and put on crap
Leaving aside the matter of the cam, sounds like it's time to smile politely, thank him kindly for his willingness to help, and then ignore every word he said.

LOL, second that.
what is a 350 Vortec and 305HO heads? The 350 is a 350 vortec or SBC they both work with each other. So if you got a vortec block with all the vortec heads intake cam. You would throw out the vortec heads which will flow better (stock for stock) bolt on the 305HO heads and cam and then you have to but a non vortec intake to work with the heads.
So basically just got any 350SBC put in a cam and throw on 305HO heads and you will get more compression then the 083 heads is what I think he meant?

Re: Vortec 350, 292 cam and 305 heads
seems like a good way to wreck a good engine...
keep the vortec heads, upgrade the springs to match the bigger roller cam that you should install- the HOT cam kit from GM is a killer setup- and just try to wipe the smile off your face every time you get on it..
