jacking up car for engine swap
I'm replacing my 305 this weekend and i'm wondering how you guys jack your cars up for this if you do. Have the car a foot off the ground on jack stands to make it easier to go under and hook everything back up? Just the front or rear? I was thinking of backing the car up on ramps then using my floor jack under the front cross member to lift it up, then put stands under the front. Any suggestions?

I'm sure it's a personal preference thing, but I tend to like to jack up the whole car. I need the whole car up in the air anyway so that I can get the driveshaft and the transmission out. If you go too high though, it makes it a little harder to work in the engine bay, plus if you have low ceilings, you need to make sure you have room for the boom of the engine hoist.

On my Trans Am I laid down some tires that are mounted to wheels and slid one under each rear tire of the car,now the back is up pretty high.up front I took the filler plate off that goes between the bumper cover and the radiator support.now hook a.chain up to the inner metal steel or aluminum bumper, now roll in your cherry picker and hook up to the chain on the bumper and jack that baby up.not sure what the inner metal bumper is like on a Camaro though,it might be different.
